Reports to: Retail Services Manager

Department: Retail Services

Status: Temporary

Full/Part Time: Full-time

Start & End Dare: January 5, 2026 - May 31, 2026

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, between 6:30 AM – 8:00 PM

Compensation: $23.00 - $27.40/hr

The salary range represents the minimum and maximum salary for the position. Employees are usually hired between the minimum and mid-point of the salary range.

The Opportunity

The Store Supervisor supervises team members and ensures a friendly and efficient service to retail customers across the Student Association’s retail locations at Burnaby campus. Using a positive and professional demeanor, this position upholds the highest standard of customer service, champions change within the team and incorporates BCITSA’s equity, diversity and inclusion values into their work and professional relationships. The Store Supervisor is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, ordering supplies, and growing the customer base.

What You Will Do:

OPERATIONAL DUTIES

  • Opens and closes retail locations ensuring all security processes and procedures are followed and each location is secured
  • Maintains store records and security; maintains office and store equipment and ensure that operational requirements are met; arrange for repairs when needed
  • Acts as the main point of contact for the retail location

CUSTOMER SERIVCE & SALES

  • Demonstrates and sets a high standard for customer service in the retail environment and ensures team members understand and exhibit customer service expectations
  • Serves customers by building rapport with an authentic, friendly, helpful, and professional demeanour
  • Resolves customer questions, complaints and requests; informs Store Manager when necessary
  • Manages and cultivates authentic relationships with all staff and key internal and external stakeholders
  • Develops and maintains a solid product knowledge, including food ingredients at applicable locations, in order to answer questions when necessary, and assist customers in locating and selecting products, and in custom clothing and school supply orders when requested.
  • Prepares specialty drinks and assembles or warms up food; Prepares and manages catering orders
  • Actively promotes sales and upcoming events

TRANSACTIONS AND FINANCIALS

  • Processes all transactions efficiently and accurately through all accepted payment methods
  • Takes orders for and processes deposits for custom orders and internal staff and executive orders
  • Manages cash, conducts cash in/out, counting of cash and prepares daily deposits for submission to the Accounting department
  • Conducts all financial transactions and submits required information to the Accounting department; creates and receives purchase orders, processes internal beverage consumption, processes coffee cards and prepares invoices for payment.

MERCHANDISING

  • Ensure store always looks neat and professional
  • Collaborate with the marketing department in creating signage and displays
  • Stock shelves and face products
  • Create displays and merchandise clothing in an attractive way, at applicable locations.
  • Ensure products are priced according to policies
  • Clean all work areas, contact surfaces and equipment
  • Rotate stock by following ‘First In, First Out’ practice
  • Prepare and display food, and replenish throughout the day, at applicable locations
  • Brew coffee and clean equipment, at applicable locations
  • Stock food and beverage supplies throughout the day, at applicable locations
  • Report low-selling items to Store Manager
  • Assist with promotions and discount pricing in collaboration with Store Manager

INVENTORY

  • Assist in the annual inventory process and conduct spot-inventories throughout the year
  • Monitor and oversee monitoring of inventory levels for purposes of ordering
  • Oversee writing-off of stale and out-dated merchandise and input into system
  • Oversee preparation, transfer and receiving of product to and from other store locations,
  • Meet with various sales representatives to receive, exchange or order products as directed by Store Manager
  • Assist Store manager in vendor and product selection

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

  • Provide leadership to and supervise retail staff with effective communication and by setting clear expectations and ensuring staff are oriented and trained on all duties and responsibilities
  • Oversee work relationships with and between staff; address issues in a collaborative manner
  • Monitor staff performance and report any job performance issues to the Store Manager
  • Prepare store schedule every two-weeks and post it for staff acknowledgement at least one week prior to each scheduling period, at applicable locations; help staff for replacements and vacations and coordinate staff breaks and mealtimes
  • Ensure staff are aware of and can use the organization’s digital tools including Avanti and Microsoft software
  • Verify staff hours punched in and out in Avanti and approve as applicable
  • Collect, verify, authorize and submit time sheets to Store Manager for payroll

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar role

KNOWELDGE & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of and ability to provide high quality customer service
  • Knowledge of sales strategies
  • Intermediate proficiency using Windows computers
  • Intermediate proficiency using MS Office Suite

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 11 kg (25lbs), bend, crouch, climb and stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to focus on a digital display for long periods of time
  • Must be able to handle stress associated with troubleshooting on a regular basis, i.e. replacing staff that called in sick on a short notice
