What does this role look like?
The CBE understands the future of work is flexible. In this role, you are eligible to participate in a flexible work program that allows you to work remotely for up to three days a week. A minimum of two days must be in the office. At certain times, you maybe be required to work in the office more then 2 days per week based on operational requirements.
Position Description
purpose****and accountability
Under the supervision of the Project Architect, coordinates and prepares design sketches and the production of architectural working drawings and specifications for new construction, major renovation and upgrading projects of simple to moderate complexity.
major responsibilities
- From architectural programs, sketches and discussion with user groups, produces preliminary sketches and design requirements for new construction, major renovations and upgrading projects. Coordinates and develops design sketches, working drawings and specifications for assigned projects.
- Assists with and checks working drawings and specifications from other disciplines of the department and external consultants. Ensures that they meet all Calgary Board of Education standards, costs and timelines.
- Acts as team leader on simple projects and provides guidance, direction and quality control guidelines to project teams. Schedules tasks, determines construction methods, materials used, and checks work for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to standards.
- Collects data and documentation necessary to apply for development and building permits for in-house projects. Completes applications and ensures completion of modifications to comply with regulations and standards and to expedite the approval process.
- Interprets contract documents, working drawings, and specifications to contractors. Answers questions concerning tender documents and technical requirements during the tendering processes and the construction of the project. Makes on-site inspections to resolve technical problems, and approves materials and alternative construction systems as required.
- Maintains records for work contracted to external consultants. Ensures provision of architectural programs, design sketches and other materials to outside consultants.
- Supervises the maintenance of records and drawings in the main drawing vault, the portables records, roofing and paving records, mechanical site services, and other related records.
- Serves as a resource to the Construction Administrator and other Department staff. Assists in contract management of projects under construction.
- Coordinates and organizes the computerized drawing record including vectorizing of electronic drawings, updating of changes, keeping an electronic drawing index, coordinating input information and managing an up-to-date drawing record.
- Provides architectural services including technical advice, choice of materials and building systems, copies of drawings to schools, maintenance department and all other departments within Calgary Board of Education.
- Coordinates and prepares feasibility studies, cost estimates, time schedules for schools and other administrative offices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
qualifications
Education and Experience
- Diploma in architectural technology from a recognized post-secondary technical institution
- Five years related experience
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in the operation of the CADD system and application of current, related computer technologies
- Knowledge of municipal regulations and building codes
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Record as a life-long learner
- Personal suitability.
