Loveday Mushroom Farms , the oldest continuously operating mushroom farm in Canada, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba is seeking HARVESTING MANAGERS for multiple opportunities! Loveday is known for their high-quality mushrooms, advanced growing technology, and state-of-the-art production facilities. In 2020, Loveday was acquired by South Mill Champs , a leading North American mushroom producer. Loveday Mushroom Farms is an advocate of good agricultural practices that ensure the highest standards of food safety and quality. We were the first mushroom grower in Canada to be HACCP-certified.

Job Title: Harvesting Manager

Department: Mushroom Growing

Reporting to: General Manager

Key Duties And Responsibilities The Mushroom Harvester will be responsible for the following:

  • Team Leadership & Coordination

v Oversee day-to-day harvest operations, coordinating schedules, priorities, staffing, and quality standards across shifts.

v Supervise and support Harvest Supervisors, and Harvesters, runners & scanners to ensure they meet production targets and quality metrics.

v Develop and maintain accurate harvest and labor forecasts to align production with sales demand, crop cycles, and operational capacity.

  • Harvest Planning & Execution

v Develop and implement harvest plans and schedules to optimize yield and efficiency.

v Monitor progress, adjust workforce allocation as needed, and address issues in real-time.

  • Quality Control & Food Safety

v Ensure harvested mushrooms meet Loveday’s strict specifications (size, cap orientation, no stem or knife marks, clean appearance)

v Collaborate closely with the Food Safety Practitioner to enforce HACCP, GMP, and SOP compliance across all harvest activities

v Lead audits, inspections, and CAPA actions related to harvesting processes, collaborating with quality teams as needed.

  • Operational Efficiency & Training

v Set and track performance KPIs (e.g. pick rate per hour, yield, defect rates).

v Identify continuous improvement opportunities in productivity and quality, driving operational changes or staff training initiatives.

v Lead training and coaching programs to ensure all harvest employees maintain high standards and consistency.

  • Health & Safety Management

v Ensure proper use of PPE (gloves, hair nets, bump caps), safe tool handling (e.g. sanitized harvest knives, platforms), and overall compliance with health & safety protocols

v Report incidents promptly and foster a safety-first mindset among staff.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

v Liaise with growing, post-harvest, packing, warehouse, and logistics teams to ensure seamless flow from harvest to distribution.

v Coordinate resource needs for tools, platforms, staffing, or maintenance with other departments.

  • Reporting & Data Management

v Maintain and report on key harvest data: daily pick volumes, yield metrics, quality defect rates, crew performance, etc.

v Provide regular updates to senior management and participate in strategic planning.

v Managing sickness, Absences and vacations

Qualifications And Experience v Education: Post-secondary credential in agriculture, horticulture, food science, or related (preferred).

v Experience: 3–5+ years in mushroom or produce harvesting operations; demonstrated supervisory or management experience in a similar environment (e.g. Harvest Supervisor).

v Knowledge of mushroom cultivation, grading standards, HACCP/GMP, food safety audits, and harvest scheduling strategies.

v Strong leadership and team development abilities; excellent communication and organization.

v Physical capability for the demands of farm work; flexible to work early hours, rotate shifts, weekends and holidays.
