Job Description Microchip Technology Inc. has a Principal Applications Engineer opening based in Burnaby, British Columbia, to join the Communications Business Unit to lead technical worldwide support team for our high performance 64-bit RISC-V MPUs. The candidate will also be responsible for generating, managing, and maintaining a suite of support collateral for Microchip’s latest SoC/MPU device.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Tier 1 OEMs in the Aerospace & Defense, Automotive, Industrial and Communications sectors to define requirements, manage deliverables, and support initial design bring-up to full production
  • Able to work independently, yet in a team environment
  • Willing to travel to work on-site at large corporations to debug hardware, software, and firmware while under tight deadlines
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to support customers
  • Own the responsibility of providing technical support for customer products

Requirements/Qualifications Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in EE, CS, or CE
  • Minimum 10 years professional experience, ideally with high-performance, embedded multicore processor / SoC / MPU
  • Lead and mentor a technical support team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment
  • Strong debugging skills and experience with bench top equipment such as protocol analyzers/exercisers, JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes
  • Create, update, and deliver technical training materials to address evolving customer and product needs
  • Experience with RISC-V, MIPS or ARM based embedded processors
  • Experience with scripting (Python, Perl, TCL, etc)
  • Experience with board-level debug & bring-up
  • Strong leadership skills and experience
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customer facing experience
  • Experience working with Marketing and Sales teams
  • Experience with hardware design
  • Experience with Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe, TSN, functional safety, fault tolerant MPU architectures, processor software stack and ecosystem

Pay Range We offer a total compensation package that ranks among the best in the industry. It consists of competitive base pay, restricted stock units, and quarterly bonus payments. In addition to these components, our package includes health benefits that begin day one, retirement savings plans, and an industry leading IESPP program with a 6-month look back feature. The annual base salary range for this position is $86,000 - $186,000.*
