About the role
We are looking for a Health & Safety Coordinator on behalf of our client, a mechanical contractor based in the Lower Mainland, BC.
As a Health & Safety Coordinator reporting to the Safety Manager, you will play a hands-on role in maintaining a strong safety culture across multiple active job sites. This is a field-forward, relationship-driven position - you will start most days on-site delivering toolbox talks or conducting inspections, then return to the office to manage documentation and program development. The role requires someone who is confident, proactive, and comfortable building credibility on construction sites.
Responsibilities Visit active job sites across the Lower Mainland to conduct inspections, toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and incident investigations Administer, promote, and monitor the company's Health & Safety program across all active sites Conduct safety orientations and provide OH&S training and fit testing to site staff Create and maintain site signage; ensure first aid kits are stocked and all personnel have required PPE Work collaboratively with project teams, general contractors, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with company, federal, and WorkSafeBC regulations Investigate incidents and near misses; prepare reports and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence Maintain employee and company safety records; identify trends and areas for improvement Participate in safety committees and contribute to the ongoing development of the safety program Stay current on developments in OH&S legislation, regulations, and best practices Administer first aid as needed across office, fabrication shop, and job sites Work toward NHSA and NCSO certification over time
Qualifications 2–5 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the mechanical contracting or construction industry CSO introductory course (e.g. BCIT Construction Safety 1100) preferred Occupational First Aid certification required Solid knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, the Workers Compensation Act, and related legislation Confident communicator - comfortable presenting to groups, building relationships on site, and engaging trades and subcontractors Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage records, documentation, and reporting independently Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed); willingness to travel across the Lower Mainland regularly Availability for early starts - site visits can begin as early as 6:00 AM
Compensation $50,000 - $65,000 base salary Benefits include extended health and dental, RRSP matching, annual discretionary bonus, and mileage reimbursement.
