Job Summary:
Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, the Quality Control Inspector I plays an important role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and precise inspection of fabricated pressure equipment. They will document non-conformances and collaborate with cross-departmental teams to maintain quality standards and drive continuous improvement. The successful candidate will utilize their knowledge of inspection procedures and technical drawing interpretation to uphold the highest standards of quality throughout the fabrication process. By fulfilling this role, the Quality Control Inspector I contributes to the overall efficiency, safety, and success of our production operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing QC functions in consultation with other departments and project schedules
- Verification and maintenance of material traceability: Reviewing supplier documents (i.e., MTR’s, COC’s, Inspection reports, etc.) against approved supplier lists, internal specifications, compliance with ASME Sec II, and other acceptance criteria as required.
- Material receiving: Thickness verification, dimensional, and surface profile inspection. The setup and use of calipers, OD/ID micrometers, and other measurement and shop tools are required to perform inspection and verification.
- Pre-welding fit-up inspection of vessels, piping, and other structural weldments.
- Verification of adherence to ASME Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) or EU-PED Welding Procedure Approval Reports.
- Verification of ASME Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) or EU-PED Welder Approval Certificates and maintenance of welder continuity.
- Welding and material visual inspection per ASME Sec. VIII Div.1, ASME B31.3 and Vitalis Specifications.
- Post-weld dimensional inspections and cleaning/passivation inspections.
- Writing inspection reports.
- Assisting with the maintenance of calibrated Inspection, Measuring and Testing Equipment (IMTE).
- Maintenance of QC Travel Sheets (ITPs) hold, witness, and verification points, and liaison with Safety Authority or Customer Inspectors as required.
- Complete Workplans and ERP-driven quality checks.
- Prepare ASME Manufacturers Data Reports and compile vessel record sets.
- Communicating product quality issues and potential improvements to Quality and Production Management.
- Assisting with Annual licensing/certification audits.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 1-3 years practical experience as Fabricator or Welder, etc., or applicable Engineering Technologist with minimum one (1) year’s practical experience within a similar environment.
- Must hold and maintain a valid CSA W178.2 Level 1 (or higher) CWB Welding Inspection Certification.
- Previous experience in quality control / performing dimensional quality inspections with a familiarity with steel fabrication and welding distortion control practices would be an asset.
- Familiarity with various welding processes (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, MCAW, SAW) and automated welding processes would be an asset.
- Experience using Codeware Shopfloor or other code-based database software would be an asset.
- A valid driver's license may be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
- Flexibility to adapt to a rapidly evolving and growing environment where responsibilities and position scope may change.
- Excellent English language skills in both reading and writing.
- Must have Canadian citizenship or a work visa for Canada.
