Job Summary
A Brief Overview
The Information Technology Services department is looking for an IT Security Solution Specialist to join the team of security professionals responsible for designing, building, configuring, testing, and deploying security technologies to achieve a highly resilient digital environment. The Security Solution Specialist will work closely with the Senior Security Architect and other technical subject matter experts on a multi-year cybersecurity program to develop and enhance the security capabilities of the university. The successful candidate will be able utilize their technical acumen and problem-solving skills across projects in areas such as Vulnerability Management, Privileged Access Management, and Endpoint Management. This position identifies, designs, tests, recommends and installs new and emerging security technologies. This position acts as the subject matter expert in diagnosing and resolving complex information technology security problems. This position also leads the implementation, verification, and acceptance testing of new security technologies, provides project status reports, and translates requirements into detailed design and technical specifications documents.
Job Description
What you will do

Identifies, designs, tests, and installs new and emerging security technologies.

Acts as the subject matter expert in diagnosing and resolving complex information technology security problems.

Defines, validates, and programs a wide-range of security devices.
-
Tests, analyzes, and recommends new technologies as potential components of the information technology security strategy, and establishes security performance baselines and audits measurements.

Develops implementation procedures for upgrades and integration of new technologies.
-
Leads the implementation, verification, and acceptance testing of new security technologies, and provides project status reports.
-
Recommends and provides input to solution design and delivery steps, deployment phases, and quality assurance guidelines.
-
Translates requirements into detailed design documents and technical specifications documents.
Required Education
-
Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.
Required Experience
-
More than 5 years of experience.
-
Experience with Microsoft security and compliance tools (e.g. Microsoft 365 Defender, Purview) considered an asset.
-
Experience with operating systems technologies considered an asset (e.g., Linux OS, Windows OS, AD Forests, Domains, Trusts, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and Organizational Units, VMware, VM backups tools, etc.).
-
Experience with scripting and programming languages is considered an asset (e.g. PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, KQL).
-
Experience with communication protocols, hardware, and real time operating system programming considered an asset (e.g., IP, TCP, POP3, etc.).
-
Experience in cloud computing environment considered an asset (e.g., Platform-as-a-service (PAAS), Infrastructure-as-a-service (IAAS), Software-as-a-service (SAAS), etc.).
Required Licenses and Certifications
-
Infosec security certification considered an asset.
-
A related IT administrator/developer/architect certification is considered an asset.
-
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Knowledge and Requirements

Knowledge of concepts and principles in a specialist field that is typically acquired through a combination of advanced professional or academic qualifications and/or significant work experience.

Provide expert advice, guidance and consultation on highly complex issues and/or where the outcome may be contentious.

Interaction with others requires highly developed interpersonal skills to effectively persuade, negotiate, counsel, and/or consult.

Adapt messages to meet the different needs of different audiences.

Prioritize and distribute work to deliver objectives on time and to the highest standard.

Identify in advance when the intended results may not be achieved and develops a plan to address the gaps.

Lead team and project meetings and develop team/unit and departmental project plans.

Comprehensive understanding of what sexual violence, harassment and discrimination are, and their varying effects on diverse members of the community.

Question and take appropriate steps to address attitudes, macroaggressions and other behaviours which are discriminatory. Acknowledges and respects diverse cultural traditions, abilities and beliefs.
