Reports To: Director of Shop Operations & Technical Services
Location: York Precast Inc. Production Facility
Position Summary
TheShop Team Lead – Precast Productionis responsible for supervising daily production activities on the shop floor to ensure precast products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and in accordance with production drawings and quality standards.
This role provides hands-on leadership to production crews and ensures that form preparation, reinforcing placement, casting, stripping, and finishing operations are completed on schedule while maintaining high standards for safety, productivity, and workmanship.
The Shop Team Lead serves as the first-line supervisor for production staff and acts as the primary liaison between production workers and management.
Key Responsibilities

Supervise and coordinate day-to-day shop floor production activities.

Lead and support production crews during form setup, reinforcing placement, casting, stripping, and finishing of precast products.

Ensure production work is completed according to shop drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures while fostering a strong safety culture.

Provide hands-on guidance and training to new and existing production team members.
-
Monitor production progress to ensure schedules and targets are achieved.

Identify workflow issues and provide real-time solutions to maintain production efficiency.

Conduct preliminary quality checks and coordinate with Quality Control personnel when required.

Communicate production updates, workflow concerns, and team needs to management.
-
Ensure tools, forms, and equipment are maintained and report maintenance requirements.

Assist with safe loading and unloading of precast products for transport.
-
Support installation activities when required.
-
Monitor material usage and notify management of shortages or procurement needs.
-
Assist in scheduling manpower and coordinating production activities across shifts when necessary.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, and productivity.

Ensure company policies, procedures, and workplace standards are consistently followed.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
-
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable transportation.

Minimum 7+ years of experience in Precast Concrete production, Manufacturing, Construction or other related industry.
-
Minimum3+ years of experience in team lead or supervisory experience.
-
Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and production plans.
-
Strong understanding of precast production processes and construction practices.
-
Knowledge of safe material handling, lifting, and rigging procedures.
-
Ability to safely operate shop equipment, tools, and machinery.
-
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
-
Ability to organize work and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
-
Physically capable of performing demanding work including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
-
Ability to work overtime, shifts, or weekends when required to meet production schedules.
Preferred Assets
-
Experience supervising precast production crews.
-
Experience with plant production scheduling and workflow coordination.
-
First Aid Certification.
-
Fall Protection Certification.
-
Aerial Work Platform Certification.
-
Forklift or material handling equipment certification.
Working Conditions
-
Indoor precast manufacturing environment with exposure to concrete dust, noise, and heavy equipment.

Physically demanding work environment requiring lifting, bending, and repetitive movement.

Extended hours may occasionally be required during peak production periods.
