About the role
BCIT’s Information Technology Services department is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE**) MS** SQL Administrator (Senior Systems Analyst). Working as a member of our Infrastructure & Networks team, you will support and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, support and mentor team members to develop and maintain an Enterprise Microsoft SQL system for BCIT. In this role, you will be entrusted with the design, implementation, and maintenance of our SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability. You will play a pivotal role in architecting database solutions that meet the evolving needs of our organization while collaborating closely with development teams.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES**:**

Design, implement, and maintain high-availability database solutions using SQL Server, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database performance issues, employing tools such as SQL Server Profiler, Performance Monitor, and Dynamic Management Views.

Develop and enforce database security protocols, including user access controls and data encryption methodologies.
-
Conduct regular database backups, restorations, and disaster recovery testing to ensure data integrity and availability.

Collaborate with development teams to optimize database queries and improve application performance.
-
Lead database migration projects, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss during transitions.

Mentor and guide junior DBAs in best practices and advanced database administration techniques

Preparing technical and user documentation.

Other duties as may be assigned.

Upon the completion of the major aspects of the project opportunities will exist for involvement in other areas of ITS’s Enterprise Technology Pillar.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS**:**
- Institute of Technology diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in science or business; and
- A minimum of six (6) years’ current experience in an IT environment similar to BCIT
- Experience with PowerShell, Windows Server, MS Clusters and MS Availability groups is a must.
- Experience with cloud-based SQL Server solutions (e.g., Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS).
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administration.
- Exposure to DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines for database changes
- Extensive experience with SQL Server versions 2016 and above.
- Proficient in using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
- Experience working with internal and external stakeholders and vendors is required.
- Familiarity with database monitoring tools such as Redgate SQL Monitor or SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer.

Salary Range: $79,823 - $105,759 per annum.
