Looking for a new opportunity? We are looking for an Assistant, Estimating to join our team!

What You Will Do

  • Reporting into the Manager, Estimating.
  • Prepare contract cost breakdowns in alignment with bid documents to support progress payment schedules for awarded contract items.
  • Assist in developing technical reports to support estimating activities, including tender comparison spreadsheets and estimate variance reports.
  • Compile status reports by researching, analyzing, and organizing data from various document resources.
  • Support Section staff in bid estimate reporting and organize site tour, obtaining preliminary quotations, and performing quantity take-offs as needed.
  • Maintain the centralized Cost Estimating System database, including historical cost data, market research, construction methods, and cost trends.
  • Receive and organize data from Senior Estimators/Estimators and perform accurate data entry.
  • Update entries in the Estimating Log Book and manage new task file folders.
  • Recommend and assist in implementing enhancements to the database functionality.
  • Schedule meetings, take minutes, track training requirements, and maintain weekly assignment/task logs for the Section.
  • Provide general clerical and administrative support, including archiving estimating records.

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • A University Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline such as engineering, construction, architecture or project management.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant administrative experience within industries such as construction, project management, architecture or engineering.
  • Good knowledge of engineering technology, construction, and project management principles; cost estimating processes and principles; and database management principles
  • Proficiency in the use of current computer software applications, such as Microsoft Excel (including macros, charts, formulas, filters), Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; ability to operate other general office equipment necessary to perform duties
  • Detail oriented, and the ability to proofread and produce error-free documents
  • Well developed interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills for frequent liaison with staff, consultants, and external agencies
  • Good judgement; strong organizational, research and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, and under minimal supervision, and produce quality work under time constraints
  • Ability to work on own and work well as a cooperative team player
  • Exposure to multi-discipline engineering technologies, and related cost data, is an asset
  • Professional certification with OACETT, CIQS, AACEI, PMI and/or other relevant technical association is an asset
