Reporting to the Supervisor, System Design – Stations, the Co-op Student will be involved in assisting with the design, planning, engineering and managing electrical substation projects.
Elexicon Energy is looking for a student to join our Stations & Automation group to work with and learn from our Stations Design team. This opportunity will allow the student to gain experience and exposure to electrical distribution utility standards, specifications, codes and construction practices that would add to their personal development and advancement. The Electrical Engineering Co-op Student will be joining the System Design - Stations team based in Whitby with the placement to last up to 12 months.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the process of design and engineering of electrical distribution stations.
- Participate in various stages of station rehabilitation and rebuild projects.
- Obtain exposure to various AutoCAD drawings, schematics, and records.
- Participate in the preparation of project Gantt chart for substation related projects from planning to commissioning.
- Participate in the process of preparing different classes of estimates and update them during the lifetime of the project.
- Work within a team of engineers and design technicians on various projects to grow skills in a Municipal Electrical Distribution Utility.
- Obtain exposure to Utility Industry standards, codes, and specifications.
- Obtain exposure to substation design and construction practices.
- Obtain exposure to distribution substation equipment and materials.
- Other duties as required may be considered part of these responsibilities.
SAFETY
- All employees are required to participate in safety training and to be well-versed in the company’s safety rules and practices. It is essential to implement safe work procedures that prioritize the well-being of both employees and customers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Enrolled in a post-secondary Electrical or Energy program.
- Basic understanding of AutoCAD.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, MS Project, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to read civil and electrical drawings.
- A valid Class "G" license with a good driving record is considered an asset.
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent communication, problem solving, and people skills.
- Technical communication and report writing.
