About Us
The Financial Shared Services Branch within the Provincial Comptroller's Office at the Ministry of Finance is responsible for providing central financial services to ministries and other clients within the Government of Saskatchewan. Services include, but are not limited to:
- Support and configuration of the government-wide financial system;
- Accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed asset transactional processing;
- Payment services; and,
- Help desk support for financial system users.
Central Accounts Payable is responsible for processing supplier invoices, other requests for payment, employee expense claims, and fixed asset transactions. Within the unit is also a compliance and optimization team that performs a risk-based audit on government payments.
The Opportunity
The Central Accounts Payable Processing Unit has a job opportunity for a person(s) interested in being part of the Government of Saskatchewan as an Accounts Payable/Fixed Assets Specialist.
The Position
In this position, you will:
- Perform a critical internal control role in the prevention of duplicate payments and ensuring certain invoice transactions are authorized and accurately recorded in the financial system;
- Take necessary actions to resolve issues and exceptions in invoice and expense claim processing and escalating issues as required (Help Desk and Supplier Inquiry Line);
- Providing advice and making recommendations to address issues identified during invoice processing to identify opportunities for process and procedure improvements that minimize errors and improve efficiency;
- Accurately process invoices, requests for payment and expense reports, including selecting the appropriate payee/site and matching supplier invoices to purchase orders and receipts;
- Process various types of entries associated with the fixed asset lifecycle;
- Verify the accuracy of data extraction and appropriateness of supporting documentation; and,
- Ensure transactions are processed in accordance with government policies and procedures.
To be successful in this position, you will be:
- Thorough, reliable, conscientious and attentive to detail to maintain integrity of accounts payable system data and ensure quality work with a high level of accuracy in accounts payable processing transactions by self and others;
- Able to plan and organize a large volume of work taking into consideration frequent interruptions and conflicting and changing priorities to meet tight deadlines;
- Strong at solving problems and possess analytical skills to examine, understand and appropriately apply policies and procedures to invoice processing issues and daily operations;
- Able to work independently and cooperatively with others in a team environment to establish, build and maintain positive working relationships and to ensure deadlines, goals and objectives are met; and,
- Client focused with strong verbal and written communication skills.
