Role reports to: Quality Laboratory Manager

Location: Guelph, Ontario, Canada

Travel %: ~10% (domestic)

What you will do

The Microbiology Supervisor supports microbiological testing, data review, environmental monitoring, cleaning validation, and biosafety programs at the Guelph site. They serve as part of the MAKE Quality Leadership Team, ensuring compliant laboratory operations and oversight of microbiological risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review/approve site quality documentation including methods, investigations, technical documents, change controls, and batch records
  • Lead microbiological data review and testing programs for raw materials, WIP, finished goods, purified water & environmental monitoring
  • Provide microbiological support for product development, including clearance testing and microbial robustness assessments
  • Lead microbiological non-conformance investigations and oversee CAPAs to mitigate microbiological risks
  • Serve as Biosafety Officer, managing PHAC/CFIA licensing and site biosafety programs
  • Support site audit readiness and metrics reporting
  • Manage purchasing controls for Quality Lab
  • Supervise team members, co-op students, and temporary staff
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and act as delegate for Quality Laboratory Manager when required

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Microbiology or related Biological Sciences
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in pharmaceutical, food, or water quality/R&D/production environment
  • Strong SAP and computer skills
  • Knowledge of Health Canada GMPs, CFRs, ICH guidelines
  • Experience with microbiology lab equipment & methods
  • Strong decision-making & problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, prioritization & organizational skills

Desired Qualifications

  • BSc in Microbiology, Biology, or Biochemistry
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or food manufacturing
  • Lean/Process Excellence experience
  • Validation experience
