About the role

Lead Hand – Landscape Enhancements / Equipment Operator

Job Duties

  • Lead and support a crew on enhancement projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards

  • Operate heavy equipment including skid steers and mini excavators for landscape installations

  • Oversee and assist with:

    • Hardscape installation (pavers, retaining walls, steps, etc.)
    • Softscape installation (planting, tree/shrub installation, soil prep, sod/seed)
    • Site grading, drainage, and light excavation
  • Read and interpret landscape plans, drawings, and specifications

  • Coordinate materials, tools, and equipment on-site to keep projects moving smoothly

  • Perform and delegate tasks such as trenching, grading, compacting, and backfilling

  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and tools

  • Provide direction, training, and support to crew members while fostering a positive team environment

  • Transition into winter snow and ice management during the off-season

Job Requirements

  • 3–5 years of landscape construction or enhancement experience, with crew lead experience preferred
  • Skilled in operating skid steers, mini excavators, and other landscape/construction equipment
  • Ability to supervise, organize, and motivate a team while working hands-on
  • Knowledge of planting techniques, soil prep, grading, and hardscape installation methods
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape drawings and specifications
  • Valid driver’s license with clean abstract
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and time management skills
  • Able to work well under pressure with solid attention to detail
