Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Health, Human and Justice Studies, the incumbent will assist students enrolled in the Developmental Services program to maximize their learning potential.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Using alternative course delivery strategies, facilitate student learning by creating learning experiences and assessment strategies that support a diverse student group and a variety of learning styles
  • Ensure that students are aware of relevant learning outcomes,learning activities, assessments and course requirements
  • Assess student achievement of learning outcomes, and support student progress in assignedcourses, enter final grades in Banner
  • Navigate, update, cross check content in LMS
  • Respond to communication via LMS and email
  • Collaborate with DSW program team members and other College supports as needed to support student success.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a University Degree in a related discipline, preferably in disability studies
  • Minimum of 3 years recent and relevant experience supporting people with disabilities and their family members in a developmental services or education setting
  • Working or actively involved in the DSW field and have experience with Social Role Valorization Theory and Person Centered Planning
  • Advanced computer literacy and a demonstrated willingness to acquire and use learning tools (such as Loyalist’s “Canvas” Learning Management System) commensurate with departmental requirements
  • Online experience as a student and/or an instructor
  • Access to high-speed Internet and computer system with Windows10
  • Access to Microsoft Office 16 or 365 and AdobeReader
  • Experience teaching post-secondary/adult students
  • Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning
  • Ability to respond tostudentswithin 48 businesshours
  • Successful completion of/or working towards Facilitator ofAdult Learning Certificate and/or experience facilitating adult learners is an asset
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and problem-solving, conflict and stress management skills
  • Experience developing, delivering, and evaluating curriculum is an asset
  • Experience facilitating learning at the post-secondary level
