Reporting to Director, International Student Program and the District Principals of International Student Programs
Position****Summary
The Manager of Student Health & Wellness and Special Projects provides strategic leadership and oversight, in partnership and consultation with the other members of the International Programs Leadership Team, for student wellbeing, safeguarding, custodianship and emergency support, and case management within the International Student Program. This role ensures international students receive coordinated, culturally responsive support for their physical health, mental health, and social-emotional wellbeing that is aligned with District and program risk management strategies.
The position includes assistance with custodial responsibilities, development and support for the program's emergency response framework, assisting with medical insurance claims and supports, implementing the program's monthly sightseeing activities and contributing to the planning, shared oversight and delivery of International Student Summer Programs. In addition, the Manager leads cross-departmental initiatives and special projects that enhance student experience and program quality.
Key****Responsibilities
**Student****Health,Wellness&**Safeguarding
- Provide leadership for student health, wellness, and safeguarding processes
- Coordinate responses to student health concerns, mental health needs, and wellbeing issues
- Serve as a key point of contact for health-related incidents, medical emergencies, and student safety concerns
- Support schools and homestay families in understanding and responding to student wellbeing needs
- Ensure trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices are embedded in student support processes
- Monitor trends in student wellness to inform proactive interventions and program improvements
- Update and develop materials supporting International Student health and wellness and communicate these with schools and other partners
- As required, accompany students on medical appointments, and meet with students regarding their physical, social, emotional and mental health concerns and needs
- Provide training to students and homestays regarding health and wellness topics, how to best acquire health care, procedures and medical insurance claims
Case****Management
- Help oversee complex student cases involving health, mental health, safety, attendance, or family concerns
- Coordinate with program leadership, school staff, counsellors, external health providers, and insurance providers
- Support decision-making related to medical consent, emergency response, and care planning
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure appropriate confidentiality and compliance with privacy legislation
- Participate in case conferences and support reintegration, transition, or repatriation planning where required
- Work with student medical insurance provider to support students' claims/inquiries
Custodianship**&EmergencyResponse**
- Assist the Director and leadership team in fulfilling custodianship responsibilities for international students, in accordance with participation agreements and regulatory requirements
- Support decision-making related to student care, medical consent, emergency interventions, and welfare matters when acting under delegated custodial authority
- Participate in the International Student Program emergency phone rotation, providing after - hours and weekend support, as required, to respond to urgent student situations
- Coordinate with schools, homestay families, emergency services, and district leadership during critical incidents
- Ensure timely follow-up, documentation, and communication following emergency responses
- Accompany students to medical appointments and support students in emergency room and hospitalization incidents
AssistancewithMonthlyActivityImplementation
- Assist with the Communication of information about monthly activities with Agent partners, homestay families, school coordinators and program staff
- Ensure waivers and permission forms for school and program activities are completed thoroughly and accurately
Policy,Compliance&RiskManagement
- Ensure program practices align with district policies, provincial/federal regulations, and international student program requirements
- Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of health, wellness, safeguarding, custodianship, and risk-management policies
- Support compliance related to student medical insurance, emergency protocols, and reporting requirements
SpecialProjects&ProgramDevelopment
- Lead and manage special projects, in collaboration with the Leadership team, that enhance student wellbeing, experience, and operational effectiveness
- Support new initiatives such as wellness programming, safeguarding training, crisis-response protocols, or student support tools
- Collaborate on cross-departmental initiatives involving student services, homestay, schools, and district leadership
- Analyze data and feedback to support continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making
- Other Special Projects may include editing of program resources and/or development of new programs and resources to help increase student well-being and program quality, development of an outbound student program, or other emergent projects based as assigned on District or program needs
SummerProgramsSupport**&**Operations
- Assist with the planning, organization, operation and supervision of International Student Summer ELL Programs
- Support student wellbeing, supervision, safeguarding, and emergency response during summer programming
- Collaborate with program coordinators, schools, homestay providers, and activity partners to ensure smooth program delivery
- Contribute to operational planning, staffing coordination, and risk management for summer programs
Training,Communication&PartnerEngagement
- Develop and deliver training for staff, homestay families, and partners on student wellbeing, safeguarding, custodianship, and best practices
- Provide guidance and consultation to schools and staff on international student health and wellness matters
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with students, parents/guardians, agents, and partners
- Support crisis communications and sensitive partner interactions as needed
Qualifications**&ExperienceRequired**
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Health Sciences, Social Work, Psychology, Education, Public Health, or related discipline)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in student support, health and wellness, youth services, education, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience managing complex or sensitive cases involving youth
- Strong knowledge of mental health, safeguarding, and student wellbeing frameworks
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver's license, suitable drivers abstract & own vehicle
Preferred**/**Assets
- Experience working with international students or in multicultural environments
- Knowledge of school systems, custodianship frameworks, child protection legislation, privacy requirements, and homestay models
- Experience participating in emergency response or on-call rotations
- Experience supporting homestay operations or student housing programs
- Experience supporting or delivering short-term or summer programs
- Training in trauma-informed practice, mental health first aid, or crisis intervention
