The apprentice electrician works under the supervision of a journeyperson
electrician to install, inspect, modify, repair, and maintain electrical components and connections in an industrial environment, while developing their skills and autonomy. Special attention is given to learning best practices to ensure safe installations that meet building standards. This position requires a CCQ certification and knowledge of Quebec electrical codes.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
- Read and interpret installation plans and specifications with the guidance of a journeyperson;
- Follow and apply safety measures required for the work;
- Assist in installing supports, mounting hardware, cable trays, conduits, cables, and ducts (underground and surface-mounted);
- Prepare and install conduits (on or within concrete, walls, ceilings, floors, etc.);
- Insert and pull cables and conductors into conduits under supervision;
- Participate in the installation of automated systems and controls for industrial and building equipment;
- Assist with final terminations and connections in control panels;
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance tasks for equipment under the supervision of a journeyperson;
- Develop troubleshooting skills and learn to identify solutions to electrical issues;
- Learn and assist in performing preventive thermographic inspections of equipment and electrical cabinets.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in Electricity;
- Valid CCQ Apprentice Electrician Certificate of Competency;
- Valid Class 5 driver's license;
- Available to travel throughout Eastern Canada;
- Safety-conscious, with a strong commitment to Laurentide's and the client's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) rules and guidelines;
- Accountability for the quality of deliverables and effective completion of tasks;
- Enthusiasm and perseverance in finding solutions and achieving expected results;
- Initiative to improve knowledge, work quality, and add value through interventions;
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment;
- Work and communicate effectively in a team setting with professionalism and courtesy;
- Meet deadlines and ensure data reliability when drafting reports;
- Written and verbal communication skills in French;
- Written and verbal communication skills in English are considered an asset.
WORK LOCATION: Montreal, Quebec – travel may be required.
