Overview
The Ministry of Energy and Resources develops, co-ordinates, and implements policies and programs to promote the growth and responsible development of Saskatchewan’s natural resource industries. The Ministry operates as the primary regulatory authority for the oil and gas industry and ensures competitive royalty systems, regulations and policies for all natural resource sectors. The Ministry also plays an important role in promoting Saskatchewan’s diverse resource potential to investors around the world.
The Opportunity
The Ministry is seeking a strategic collaborator and innovative leader to fill the role of Director, Strategy Management Services for a 13-month term. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Strategic Planning and Initiatives Branch, the Director leads projects and processes associated with the Government of Saskatchewan’s planning and accountability framework, including the reporting and performance and improvement functions as well as oversees a range of services for the ministry such as legislative services, access and privacy and records management.
The unit is agile and outcome-oriented and supports the work of all areas of the ministry. This position requires a strong communicator and facilitator to engage and deliver consensus- and interest-based results with ministry senior leadership and executive management committee. The ability to influence people, shepherd sensitive and confidential information, and manage processes and projects is an important skill set.
The successful candidate will manage a diverse team of professionals and will have knowledge of, or experience in:
- leading strategic and operational planning processes and performance measurement;
- understanding the public policy development process and government decision-making processes;
- facilitation and relationship management skills to effectively communicate with all levels of the ministry;
- processes relating to Cabinet documents, legislation, contracts and agreements, and access and privacy;
- innovation and continuous improvement strategies and activities; and,
- directing multi-disciplinary teams to execute projects that deliver measurable results on schedule.
Typically, the knowledge for this position would be obtained through:
- Senior leadership experience, ideally in the public sector with emphasis on planning, policy or strategy.
- A degree or post-graduate degree in the field of public administration, education, business, and/or public policy.
- An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
