This role is part of Eyeline’s Technology organization, which is responsible for delivering foundational APIs and services, supporting creative excellence across our global studio. We are seeking an accomplished and highly motivated leader for our Platform Engineering team – someone with a proven track record of delivering robust backend services and high performance software solutions in a fast-paced production environment.
As Manager of Platform Engineering, you will own the platform that powers our software across our VFX, Virtual Production, Volume Capture, and Visual Pioneering verticals. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to understand their needs and use your deep understanding of software architecture to translate them into clear, actionable initiatives that align with business goals. Your teams will be responsible for delivering solutions that require deep, specialized expertise not represented in other parts of the software organization, including backend services, high-performance APIs, and hardware integration. Your leadership will focus on simplicity, scalability, and usability – ensuring the software is maintainable, intuitive, and high-impact. You'll define an architectural direction that ensures a strong connection to the broader Eyeline platform.
Success in this role means being a trusted strategic partner, delivering technology that connects teams, simplifies workflows, and drives Eyeline’s unified vision forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of software that empowers our software engineering teams
- Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders of our foundational software engineering platforms – build trust by collaborating closely to understand and prioritize requirements, and striving to deliver functionality early and often
- Guide your team through complex technical trade-offs, ensuring solutions deliver performance and scale while remaining compact and reliable
- Partner with Netflix teams to maintain system monitoring, handle incidents, and ensure disaster recovery readiness.
- Support team leads and project managers in developing project roadmaps to ensure timely and successful delivery of complex projects
- Develop and drive quality assurance practices to ensure that features are validated in production
- Communicate project updates and progress to senior leadership and stakeholders
- Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues that may impact project delivery
- Collaborate with managers across technology teams to support our “one team” principle – delivering consistency and cross-functional alignment through shared roadmaps and priorities
- Ensure development adheres to established standards and best practices, including security compliance
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers, providing guidance and mentorship
- Create and maintain a positive and collaborative work environment that fosters innovation and continuous learning
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new team members
Qualifications
- Minimum seven (7) years experience leading software engineering teams
- Minimum four (4) years experience with interpreted languages such as Python, and Javascript
- Minimum four (4) years experience with compiled languages such as C, C++, go, and Rust
- Strong understanding of Service-Oriented Architecture and distributed systems, such as REST, RPC, and message queues
- Demonstrated ability to design, create, and deliver software APIs and frameworks in a cross-functional environment
- Experience deploying and monitoring containerized services, especially using orchestration platforms such as kubernetes
- Ideally, exposure to software systems that interact with hardware such as cameras
- Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills
- Self-directed, proactive, detailed, organized and solution-oriented personality
This salary range is specific to applicants applying to our position in Vancouver, BC. To determine your base salary, we consider your qualifications, skills, and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary outside of this range and will also be dependent on your location.
