Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

Part-Time Academics are needed to teach COMM 1715 Business Communication in the Winter term from January to April, 2026.

Course Responsibilities

COMM 1715 is a hybrid course with 1.5 hours delivered asynchronously online plus 1.5 hours in live, in-person tutorials delivered synchronously. The asynchronous material is presented by the Course Coordinator. Synchronous tutorials are taught by the part-time academic.

Each Part-Time Academic will be responsible for two synchronous in-person tutorial sections of COMM 1715 for one course load. Twenty-five students are enrolled in each tutorial. The Part-time Academic will be responsible for the following aspects of teaching and administering the class: conducting tutorials; marking written assignments and student presentations in a timely manner and providing feedback; maintaining the course gradebook and entering Brightspace marks; and collaborating and communicating effectively and regularly with other instructors.

Tutorial guides, Brightspace content, instructor resources including PowerPoints, and all course assignments and materials will be provided to the instructor by the course coordinator. The part-time instructor is not responsible for course planning and development.

The Part-time Academic should be available for one office hour per week. These office hours may be held in-person or online according to the preferences of the Part-time Academic.

The Part-time Academic reports to the Course Coordinator.

The following positions are available. One course load includes two tutorial sessions for a total of 50 students (25 students per tutorial).

Position 1: Tutorial sections at the following times:

COMM 1715 B01 Wednesdays 0835 – 0955, Rowe Building 3001
COMM 1715 B08 Mondays 0835 – 0955, Rowe Building 5001

Position 2: Tutorial sections at the following times:

COMM 1715 B02 Mondays 1605 – 1725, Rowe Building 5001
COMM 1715 B10 Mondays 1435 – 1555, Rowe Building 5001

Position 3: Tutorial sections at the following times:

COMM 1715 B03 Thursdays 1305 – 1425, Rowe Building 3001
COMM 1715 B06 Tuesdays 1305 – 1425, Rowe Building 5001

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

A Master’s or PhD in Communication, English, Marketing, Classics, Business Communication or other relevant field is required. The candidate should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. The successful applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of Business English and Business Communication and must have an established record of effective teaching experience.

The successful candidate must also be able to meet the School’s accrediting body (AACSB) academic qualification requirements or professional qualification requirements.

Salary Range/Pay Rate

$6,478 (In accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement)
