Position Description

SickKids is advancing its Health Equity and Inclusion strategy and is seeking a Director, Health Equity and Inclusion. Reporting to the Executive Lead, Strategic Advisor of Health Equity and Inclusion, the Director will lead the development and implementation of an institution-wide strategy that integrates Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), Indigenous Health, and Health Equity. This role will involve strategic planning, program design, implementation oversight, and evaluation. The Director will collaborate with internal and external partners to advance health equity through data informed interventions related to social determinants of health into care, advance equitable inclusive practices, and build sustainable programs that support the SickKids 2030-Office of Health Equity Inclusion (SK2030-OHEI) vision.

Here's What You'll Do

  • Lead the development and implementation of the integrated Health Equity and Inclusion strategy aligned with SK2030-OHEI priorities.
  • Lead and manage the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion team, including program managers, analysts, and advisors, excluding the Indigenous Program Manager.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of programs that advance EDI and Health Equity across the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Indigenous Program Manager and provide support to advance and implement the strategic plan for Indigenous health.
  • Champion the collection and use of health equity and social determinant of health data to inform decision-making and improve patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with clinical, research, administrative and educational teams to inform access and delivery of social determinants of health care.
  • Support the development of inclusive policies and cultural safety education.
  • Engage with internal networks, advisory groups, and external stakeholders to foster a culture of inclusion and accountability.
  • Work with the Office Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) team and partners within and outside the organization to apply for funding for projects and research.

Here's What You'll Need

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Social Work, Law, Sociology, Education, Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development).
  • Must have clinical experience in a healthcare setting, involving direct work with patients and their families (e.g. Allied Health Professionals, Registered Nurse, etc.).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience effectively leading teams coupled with proven progressive leadership in advancing EDI and Health Equity within complex organizations.
  • Proven understanding of Indigenous cultural safety; ability to support/create culturally safe care environments and build relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Proven experience leading and developing people and teams in achieving results while developing their capability to meet current and future needs.
  • Demonstrated success in strategy development, implementation and evaluation related to Health Equity and Inclusion.
  • Proficiency with social determinants of health, anti-oppression frameworks, and cultural safety principles.
  • Achieving results through effective and impactful organizational change management expertise.
  • Exceptional relationship skills developing partnerships and collaboration (both internal and external).
  • A master's degree is an asset in a relevant discipline (e.g. Social Work, Law, Sociology, Education, Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development).

Employment type

  • Full Time, 35-hour workweek, Hybrid work environment (4 days in-person).
