Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) - Sessional Instructors
Faculty/Instructor Profile
The School of Health and Wellness at Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is currently inviting applications for Sessional (Full-Time/Term-Certain) Instructors in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program.
The BScN program is a four-year collaborative degree with the University of Alberta, approved by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. The BScN program provides exceptional opportunities to work closely with students, faculty, and staff in an innovative, supportive environment that promotes creativity, scholarship, and commitment to student success.
All four years of the degree program are taught by RDP faculty. Faculty may be assigned instructional workload that requires travel to urban sites (Red Deer Regional Hospital, long-term care sites, etc.) and rural locations in Central Alberta (Sundre, Olds, Innisfail, Stettler, etc.), in addition to teaching on the RDP campus. Please see the Travel and Reimbursement of Expenses procedure.
Sessional (Fulltime/Term-Certain):
- Our Sessional Instructors are hired on full-time, term certain contracts. We have contract options available ranging from 4.5 to 6.5 months.
- This role is ideal for those looking to jump into teaching, build relationships with students and really experience what it feels like to be a nurse educator at RDP.

Position Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Associate Dean of BScN, the successful candidate will have the following key responsibilities:
- Teaching students in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings with flexibility for both face-to-face and online course delivery
- Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment which includes preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material
- Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work
- Travel to urban and rural sites for clinical instruction
- Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students
- Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum development & review, project work, and scholarly activity
- Participating in School and Polytechnic-wide initiatives and/or committees
- Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP, which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy
- Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.
Instructors will uphold professional responsibilities and demonstrate RDP organizational values by adhering to related policies and practices. They will be supported through a comprehensive onboarding experience, additional training from the Centre for Teaching & Learning, and mentorship through the Nursing Faculty Navigator program, designed to help transition from clinicians to educators.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)

Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider or Recertification Certificate, or willingness to obtain upon hire

Current Immunizations as per RDP requirements

Respiratory Fit Testing

Valid Driver’s License

A satisfactory Criminal Record Check in accordance with the Polytechnic’s Criminal Record Check policy

Benefits and Compensation Information
Compensation is determined by the highest academic credential received and related experience. Please see the attached Faculty Salary Grids: Current FARDP Full-Time and Part-Time Faculty Grids**.**
The Faculty Association at Red Deer Polytechnic (FARDP) and the related Collective Agreement provides information on compensation for Instructors at Red Deer Polytechnic.
Sessional (Fulltime/Term Certain) Instructors:
- Receive paid time off between Christmas and New Year general holidays as well as 8% of their gross salary in lieu of vacation.
- Eligible for a comprehensive health and dental benefits package, including a Health Spending Account.
- Eligible for individual professional development funding, additional free professional development opportunities offered through the institution, and tuition free classes.
Eligibility to access the above mentioned benefits is dependent upon the FARDP Collective Agreement and related RDP policies.
