In this role, you’ll operate and monitor the wastewater treatment plant using standard operating procedures and best practices to ensure everything runs smoothly. You’ll perform process field tests, analyze SCADA data, and make informed adjustments to optimize performance. When abnormal conditions arise, you’ll work closely with your peers and Lead Hand to troubleshoot and resolve issues. You’ll also contribute to sound operational decisions, operate equipment, and step into broader responsibilities when needed to support the success of the plant.

 

Reporting to the

Manager, Operations

, and working alongside the

Lead Hand Operator

and fellow Operators, you’ll help maintain compliance with

environmental

standards

and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System requirements

.

What you’d be responsible for

 

  • Performing process field tests and analyzing SCADA data to make informed decisions that keep plant operations running efficiently.

  • Recognizing and addressing abnormal conditions in collaboration with

    fellow

    Operator

    s

    and Lead Hand

    Operator (LHO)

    .

  • Making sound operational decisions, operating equipment, and handling plant adjustments.

  • Recording operational data accurately in written or computerized formats to comply with contractual and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensuring compliance with wastewater regulations and promptly reporting significant operational events to Manager and Lead Hand to support safe, reliable service delivery.

  • Operating and troubleshooting process units, chemicals, and equipment to ensure optimal performance.

  • Adhering to company policies,

    Standard Operating Procedures (

    SOPs

    )

    , and Occupational Health Safety & Environment (HS&E) regulations, following all safety rules, and actively correcting unsafe conditions to foster a zero-injury culture and maintain compliance with ISO 14001 environmental standards.

  • Using systems like IVARA and maintaining housekeeping standards to ensure a safe, efficient

    and compliant

    work environment.

  • Providing valuable input to operations plans and building strong collaborative relationships across teams and partners.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma

    , GED or equivalent level of secondary education is required.

    • A Water/Wastewater certificate/diploma from a recognized educational institution or other combinations of education and experience is considered an asset.
  • A valid

    Level II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate

    .

    • Candidates with

      no certification

      or possessing a

      Level 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

      certification may be considered at the

      Non-Certified

      Operator or Operator I position

      provided they demonstrate aspiration

      to

      attain or upgrade

      certification

      s

      within 12 months of hire

      .

  • A valid

    Canadian Class 5

    driver’s license

    with 6 or fewer demerits

    at the time of hire is required; Prior unsafe driving infractions may result in non-selection.

  • Candidates

    must be eligible for an EPCOR driver’s permit and

    will

    be required to provide a 5-year Commercial Driver’s Abstract

    at the time of hire;

    GDL licenses are not accepted

    .

  • Has a valid

    3A driver’s license

    or working towards obtaining it within 6 months of hire.

  • A

    5th class boilerman (Fireman’s) certificate

    or working towards obtaining within 12 months of hire.

 

Experience:

  • 2+ years

    of experience in a large water utility.

    • less than 2+ years

      of experience may be considered.

 

Technical

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of biological systems and wastewater plant operations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with working knowledge of SCADA systems

    and

    asset management software (e.g., IVARA, SAP)

    .

  • Solid understanding of

    Canadian HS&E regulations

    .

  • Familiarity with Power BI and HACH WIMS is considered an asset.

Conditions:

  • Must meet the

    physical demands of the role

    (able to stand for up to 75% of the day; able to carry up to 20kg/45lbs)

    , including working outdoors in all weather condition

  • Ability to

    wear

    a ½ mask respirator

    is required

    and work safely with wastewater and industrial samples.

  • Must successfully

    complete and obtain clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing

    .
