Habitat for Humanity GTA is greater Toronto’s most recognized provider and advocate of solutions that tackle our region’s housing crisis. Since 1988, Habitat GTA has built 23 new communities, empowering more than 500 families.

Habitat ReStore is a chain of non-profit home improvement retail stores with 8 locations across the Greater Toronto Area, owned and operated by Habitat for Humanity GTA. We sell home furnishings, appliances, and other renovation materials at a fraction of the price. Our items are donated from businesses and individuals and undergo inspection and testing to ensure they meet our high-quality standards.

Habitat GTA is growing. We are an innovative, entrepreneurial social enterprise that has been increasing our capacity for impact each and every year. Together, we are building a better, more inclusive GTA for everyone.

What You Will Do

  • Represent Habitat for Humanity GTA as a Brand Ambassador by modeling our values and guiding principles
  • Learn, understand and participate in the Health and Safety Program
  • Customer service: Greet customers, understand their needs, and provide knowledgeable recommendations to ensure a positive shopping experience.
  • Sales and transactions: Process sales, handle payments accurately, and manage returns and exchanges.
  • Store maintenance: Keep the sales floor clean, organized, and visually appealing by restocking shelves and arranging displays.
  • Product knowledge: Stay informed about product features, inventory levels, and current promotions to effectively assist customers.
  • Inventory management: Assist with tasks like receiving shipments and conducting stock counts to ensure the store is adequately stocked.
  • Team collaboration: Work with other team members to achieve sales goals and contribute to a positive store environment.

Skills and Qualifications

  • One year or More experience in Retail
  • Must be Fluent in English
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident

Training/Supervision Plan

The position will be mentored by experienced ReStore Store Manager & Assistant Store Manager

The supervisor/designate holds morning huddles with store staff and occasional volunteers: The student will shadow team members throughout the day to learn hands on tasks

  • Discuss the daily sales goals
  • Discuss any promotions being held
  • Discuss action items to be executed each shift
  • Discuss any safety concerns with the team

Founded in 1988, Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is a nonprofit housing organization working toward a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. We mobilize communities to help working, lower income families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. With the help of volunteers, donors, and community partners, we provide a solid foundation for better, healthier lives for families in the GTA. Since 1988, Habitat for Humanity GTA has built more than 360 homes for families, including over 1,300 children, in need of safe, decent, and affordable housing.

Our houses are sold to partner families at no profit and are financed with affordable, no-interest mortgages that are geared to the family’s income level. In lieu of a down payment, Habitat homeowners volunteer 500 hours of sweat equity on our build sites and at our ReStores. Through our unique affordable homeownership model, we offer families a hand up, empowering them to build better lives for themselves and their children.

In support of our homebuilding, Habitat for Humanity GTA operates retail home improvement stores called Habitat ReStore. Our 11 locations across the GTA sell new and used donated home furnishings, appliances, and renovation materials to the public at a fraction of the original price. Habitat ReStore collects donations from the community, and proceeds from sales help cover the cost to build homes for families.
