About Us

The Registrar Information Technology Solutions Group (RITS) directly supports the Office of the Registrar, the Vice Provost Academic, the Office of Indigenous Initiatives, Western International, EDI Office and Western Continuing Studies. Furthermore, the RITS Group is responsible for curating and providing data appropriate for our university constituents to support student enrolment, progression and persistence.

The RITS team is comprised of three pillars: the Web and IT Team, the Peoplesoft Team, and the Salesforce Team. All three pillars provide knowledgeable support, enhanced information and knowledge-based management; find efficiencies and optimization to improve system design with a goal to support students from recruitment to graduation .The RITS group develops programs and systems across all of our technologies (Peoplesoft CS, Cold Fusion Rapid Application Development Environment, LaserFiche, Salesforce, Group Mail, ProctorTrak, Brightspace) that improve the efficiency of administrative and counselling staff across campus; the group delivers tools that empower staff in faculties to manage their students and optimize their workload.

This unit is responsible for maintaining a technological infrastructure that remains at the forefront of innovations in Canadian student administration.

Responsibilities

The Manager, Information Systems will be accountable for the planning and oversight of the configuration, support, maintenance, and purchasing of all the Office of the Registrar and Academic Programs computer hardware including, but not limited to, tablets, laptops, desktops, servers, and all peripherals. The Manager will coordinate the purchase, configuration, and installation of software needed by functional staff and will ensure appropriate security, backup, and recovery procedures are in place and implemented. The Manager will manage select Web and IT Projects within the Office of the Registrar and Academic Programs as well as the Explorance Blue Course Evaluation system (SQCT). The Manager will act as a liaison between the Office of the Registrar, Academic Programs and Western Technology Services (WTS) to ensure appropriate procedures, effective and timely communication and that appropriate WTS resources are solicited to assist with the needs of users.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree or College Diploma in Information Technology or a related field

Experience:

  • 5 years progressive IT experience
  • Previous experience leading teams and implementing projects
  • Experience working in post-secondary education is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced computer skills with the ability to troubleshoot
  • Excellent technical literacy of current and emerging technologies
  • Superior analytical skills with the ability to listen to non-technical staff describe their needs and translate those needs into technical specifications
  • Strong communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users (orally and in writing), lead business discussions and train others and deliver presentations
  • Strong flexibility and time management and the ability to manage multiple priorities and crises
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, inspire and lead
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to satisfy expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work, strategic planning and project management
  • Self-motivated and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change
  • Proven ability to take initiative and champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation
