The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager Corporate Transactions & Treasury (CT&T) the Team Lead Billings & Payables ("Team Lead") assists in the oversight of the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions within Corporate Programs of IWK Health. The Team Lead will ensure the accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments, and bills and receipts for the organization with revenues and expenses approaching $0.5 billion annually. The Team Lead will play an important role in maintaining IWK’s financial health through the implementation and documentation of efficient processes and procedures that aim to optimize cash flows while offering superior client-centered services.
The Team Lead will work in conjunction with the manager to lead strategic initiatives aimed at improving practices, systems, and enhancing internal controls. The Team Lead will coordinate preparation of departmental dashboards and KPI’s to monitor and analyze results. This position is also responsible for the preparation and analysis of various balance sheet account and other reconciliations as it relates to accounts payable/payments, and billings/collections to help ensure proper controls are maintained.
The Team Lead assists in the oversight of the patient revenue process including advising on system related enhancements and/or implementations with a goal of maximization of supplemental revenue, reduction of bad debt expenditures and enhancement of the patient experience. The Team Lead assists in ensuring that the allowance for doubtful accounts, and all other receivables reconciliations, are accurate and properly valued.
The Team Lead will coordinate the timely and efficient payment of vendor invoices, staff reimbursement, and petty cash replenishment by ensuring that payments meet all policy requirements. The Team Lead maintains a close relationship with the organization's financial institution and ensures that the IWK is always utilizing the most effective banking technologies.
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday; 7.5 hr days
Your Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration / Commerce or equivalent required
- Holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA)
- Minimum five (5) years' experience in financial administration
- Minimum two (2) years' supervisory experience required, preferably in a financial services environment
- An equivalent combination of education, certification and related experience may be considered
- Experience in a healthcare/clinical setting is considered an asset
- In-depth understanding and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) considered an asset
- Knowledge of financial accounting and computing (such as SAP and MEDITECH) systems
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including strong presentation skills
- Effective research and analytical thinking skills
- Demonstrated Leadership skills
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Ability to execute through effective delegation, motivation and oversight considered an asset
- Sound judgement, and sufficient diplomacy to support the CT&T team and leadership across IWK Health
- Demonstrated self-starter, decision-maker and problem solver
- Understands and anticipates the system-wide and province-wide impact of decisions
- Proficiency with Microsoft computer applications, with moderate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset.
