These positions are open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 18 September 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on 25 September 2025.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager/Supervisors of Environmental Services LTC, the Service Associate (LTC Housekeeping Services) is an integral member of the Resident Care Team and Housekeeping Services Team at the Lakeridge Gardens 320 bed long term care home built on the Ajax-Pickering hospital site.

This new home is part of the government's plan to improve long-term care delivery and capacity in Ontario and in the Durham Region. This state-of-the-art long-term care home sets a new bar for seniors' care, with dining and outdoor space on every floor, a large courtyard, onsite diabetes care and other important innovative features.

Just as Lakeridge Health is a beacon in the Durham community, the new long-term care home is an integral to managing and delivering on the needs and expectations of seniors in the Durham community and Ontario.

The Service Associate is responsible for:

  • Apply LTC cleaning standards, Inspection Protocols and current IPAC recommendations to clean and disinfect bedrooms, bathrooms, surfaces, furnishings, and assist devices throughout the RHA

  • Apply LTC cleaning standards, Inspection Protocols and current IPAC recommendations to clean RHA service areas such as communal resident/service areas, hallways and tub rooms

  • Clean all floors by dust mopping /sweeping, wet mopping, scrubbing/extracting, and vacuuming as floor specifications require.

  • Replenish soap/sanitizers, paper products and other sanitation supplies daily as required

  • Transport equipment, furnishing, supplies and resident belongings as needed

  • Perform grounds maintenance as assigned

  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs to RHA environment and equipment as required

  • Perform routine building monitoring functions such as temperature checks and locking/unlocking of doors

  • Perform all Personal laundry functions as required and perform Quality Audits of the Laundry Services.

  • Assisting residents at meal time

  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and distributing cleaning supplies, equipment, and linens carts.

  • Clean patient care equipment as per manufacturer's guidelines, meeting or exceeding current PIDAC recommendations.

  • Defrost and clean refrigerators, freezers, and ice machines on the RHA.

  • Empty and transport garbage and potentially hazardous substances, sharp containers, and linen as required as per cleaning standards and occupational health and safety regulations.

  • As required; remove all wet and dry garbage and linens for the RHA following the Job routine schedules

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read and write English to the level required for the job;

  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of fundamentals of universal precautions relating to cleaning and handling of equipment, supplies and specimens;

  • Proven knowledge of WHMIS;

  • Proven effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to work as a member of the unit team with minimum supervision;

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines- adapting to changing demands with flexibility and efficiency.

  • Physically capable of performing duties including: being able to walk extensively and climb stairs and ladders on a regular basis;

  • Previous LTC experience as an SA (preferred);

  • Must be able to work all shifts;

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient, and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area;

  • Must have a satisfactory performance record

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
