About the role

Your Opportunity: Reporting to the unit manager the unit clerk functions as a receptionist and clerk for the NICU. The position is a coordinator and a central source of information and records relating to the activities, communication, and services of the patients and families in the NICU. Recent unit clerk experience in a hospital setting preferred. Previous experience dealing with the public required. Previous clerical and computer experience / or training an asset. Must have a strong knowledge of the English language including grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Excellent communication, both verbal and written and interpersonal skills are required. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently in a busy environment, prioritize workloads appropriately, and maintain confidentiality of medical and personal information. Must be able to use judgement in making decisions, effectively meet deadlines in a timely manner and within the priorities established.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
