About the role

Job Description On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is seeking a Data Architect who will be responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of solution implementation while adopting effective quality assurance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead enterprise level data architecture and modelling decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable, consistent, and aligned with the data strategy, regulatory context, and architecture standards.
  • Design and validate cross segment data models for a prioritized set of shared entities that enable harmonization across multiple regulatory segments, including shared entities, reference data, and conformed dimensions.
  • Provide reference patterns for external data submission / ingestion / data sharing, including maturity based approaches and sequencing recommendations.
  • Deliver a metadata-driven data validation framework in Databricks to validate regulatory data submissions, including rule orchestration, cross-dataset validation, submission compliance metadata management, and integration with front-end submission portal in Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Refine source to target mapping standards for the medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold), including guidance on data grain, change handling, and modelling standards.
  • Peer review, refine, and support development of reference data pipelines, from ingestion through medallion layers, and providing actionable guidance for internal teams for alignment and extension.
  • Conduct targeted prototyping to validate key architectural, modelling, and ingestion decisions, focusing on proving patterns.
  • Produce implementation ready reference artifacts (e.g., patterns, templates, standards, and decision records) that can be adopted and extended by internal teams.
  • Support decision making forums (e.g., ARB) by clearly articulating options, trade offs, risks, and sequencing considerations in a decision ready format.
  • Ensure recommendations and patterns incorporate security, governance, quality, and maintainability, operating within an Agile–Waterfall hybrid delivery approach.

Qualifications Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software/Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Relevant cloud or data platform certifications are considered an asset.

Enterprise Data Architecture

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in data architecture and/or data engineering, including experience in a lead or principal role.
  • Proven ability to make enterprise-level data architecture and data modelling decisions and successfully drive them through implementation.

Cloud & Databricks

  • Recent hands-on experience delivering data pipelines in cloud-based data platforms, preferably Azure and/or Databricks.
  • Ability to perform light implementation or prototyping to validate architecture and modelling decisions.

Layered Data Architecture & Data Modelling

  • Demonstrated experience designing layered data architectures (e.g., medallion architecture: bronze / silver / gold or equivalent).
  • Strong data modelling expertise, including:
  • Enterprise or cross-domain data models
  • Shared entities
  • Reference data
  • Conformed dimensions
  • Ability to define source-to-target mappings, data grain, and data transformation standards.

External Data Ingestion & Validation

  • Experience designing external data ingestion, submission, or data sharing patterns, ideally within regulated or multi-organization environments.
  • Experience designing data validation and data quality frameworks, preferably metadata-driven and implemented within a lakehouse architecture.

Implementation-Ready Architecture Artifacts

  • Experience producing implementation-ready architecture artifacts, such as:
  • Reference implementations
  • Architecture patterns
  • Standards and guidelines
  • Architecture decision records (ADRs)
  • Ability to clearly communicate architectural options, trade-offs, and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Regulated / Financial Services Environment (Preferred)

  • Experience working in financial services, regulatory, or other highly governed environments is preferred.
