Overall Purpose
Explore Waterloo Region is seeking a highly organized, collaborative, and process-driven Marketing Manager to support the marketing team and CEO during a maternity leave period. This is a manager-level role designed to ensure continuity, coordination, and momentum across marketing initiatives while the Director of Marketing is away. The Marketing Manager will play a key role in coordinating campaign launches, supporting paid and owned marketing efforts, and keeping marketing operations running smoothly. The role will also provide essential administrative and project management support, including reporting, budget tracking, and the development of presentation materials.
Key Responsibilities
This role provides day-to-day project management and process coordination support for Explore Waterloo Region’s marketing function during a maternity leave.
- Maintain marketing processes and initiatives to ensure continuity, consistency, and smooth execution across all campaigns and projects.
- Manage integrated campaign calendars across paid and owned channels, ensuring internal teams and agency partners meet timelines and deliverables.
- Track, analyze, and document marketing performance data and analytics, translating results into clear summaries and insights.
- Prepare marketing board reports, campaign wrap reports, and other leadership and stakeholder reporting.
- Track and monitor the 2026 marketing budget, report on variances, and support the development of the 2027 budget plan.
- Support finance processes including coding and tracking marketing invoices as well as reviewing internal expense statements.
- Track marketing in-kind investments, sponsorships, and partner revenue.
- Oversee delivery of marketing support for sector-specific events, trade shows, and activations, including Business Events, Travel Trade, and Sport & Esports Hosting.
- Track paid partnership commitments, contracts, and creative requirements.
- Support the CEO with presentation decks, briefing materials, and campaign summaries for internal and external use.
- Attend industry events and meetings throughout Waterloo Region, as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook), with the ability to create clear, professional reports and presentations.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in reporting, budgeting, and documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate data and campaign activity into clear summaries for leadership and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with a process-driven approach to work.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams and external partners.
- Knowledge of marketing principles; experience in tourism, destination marketing, or a related sector is considered an asset.
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience in marketing, communications, or project management.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a marketing, communications, or project management role; experience in tourism or destination marketing is an asset.
Reporting Relationships: This position reports to the CEO.

A - Physical Environment
Explore Waterloo Region is a busy and dynamic organization. This role is primarily virtual/hybrid, with the majority of time spent using a computer. Work is primarily seated, with regular opportunities to move about. Occasional travel throughout Waterloo Region is required to attend meetings, events, and activations.
B - Physical Effort
Minimal – primarily seated at a workstation performing computer-based work. Occasional travel and attendance at offsite meetings is required.
C - Sensory Attention
Moderate – requires sustained concentration to review data, reports, and communications while managing multiple deadlines in an environment with frequent interruptions. Must follow safety and control practices and conform to OHS Legislation when handling equipment, supplies and potentially hazardous substances.
D - Mental Pressures
Moderate/Considerable – The role operates in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent projects and deadlines. Requires the ability to prioritize work, adapt to changing demands, and maintain a high level of accuracy while managing a steady volume of requests. Sound judgment and attention to detail are essential to avoid errors, particularly in reporting, budgeting, and stakeholder communications.

Flexibility in working hours to support a dynamic and evolving schedule is required. Excellent interpersonal skills, confidence, strong project coordination experience, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of internal staff, leadership, and external partners are essential to success in this role.
