GENERAL SUMMARY
Working closely with YDPSs, the Junior Youth Worker will play a supportive role in assisting in the delivery of exceptional programs and positive leadership to children and youth.

Junior Youth workers assist in the planning, organizing and delivery of BGCO programs that are designed to develop assets and facilitate the personal, social and emotional development of young people between the ages of 6-18.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACTIVITIES

Major Responsibility 1:

Assist in the delivery and implementation of safe and supportive programs based on the four pillar model: Education, Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyles, Creative Arts, Leadership and Life skills.

Activities:·

  • Adhere to Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa (BGCO) Programs Policies and Procedures Manual and Employee Handbook
  • Organizing appropriate child and youth programs
  • Assist in the delivery and promotion of programs
  • Support senior staff in the direct delivery of programs

Major Responsibility 2: Role-model pro-social behaviours for members

Activities:·

  • Act as a valued member of the BGCO team
  • Be a positive role model for children and youth
  • Attend and participate in BGCO training opportunities
  • Assist when necessary in supporting volunteers and program placement students
  • Advocating on behalf of children and youth that attend programs
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of various aspects of child development

Major Responsibility 3: Assist in the safe supervision of members

Activities:·

  • Ensure identified program policies and procedures are followed in regards to member support and behaviour management
  • Assist with supporting the assigned programs
  • Debrief with senior staff, identifying concerns and/or opportunities

Major Responsibility 4:

Administration

Activities:·

  • Oversee front desk and all its responsibilities (including sign in/out, greeting members and their families, ensuring membership form completion etc.)
  • Assist with the development of promotional materials and information
  • Ensure database information is accurate and maintained

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education, Training and Experience

  • In high school
  • Assisted in program delivery
  • Ability to maintain database records
  • Ability to manage front desk and all its responsibilities
  • Recognized certification in first aid
  • HIGH FIVE certificate is an asset
  • Multilingualism is an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS

These are the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
