The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and economic planning and operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. We are looking for two Program Analysts to join AESO’s Transformation Management Office (TMO). Reporting directly to the Program Manager, TMO, you will support the successful execution of AESO’s transformation initiatives by providing expert project coordination and performance tracking with integration with process design. You will also support the efficient execution of transformation programs, ensuring risks are managed and processes are optimized to achieve strategic objectives.

This full-time opportunity offers a competitive salary, and a variable pay program. Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

Project Management Support

  • Assist in developing integrated implementation plans (initiative chartering, project plans and preliminary budgets) for transformation initiatives.
  • Track progress, risks, and dependencies across multiple projects.
  • Financial management (budgets, actuals, commitments, forecasts and accruals).
  • Support change requests, re-planning, and re-forecasting activities.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare dashboards and reports on initiative performance, timelines, and budgets.
  • Consolidate data for TMO and execution streams to support decision-making.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Collaborate with initiative leads, People & Culture, and corporate communications to ensure alignment across the organization.
  • Support escalation management and resource coordination across workstreams.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to AESO’s transformation governance framework.
  • Maintain documentation for audits and program reviews.

Process Design & Optimization

  • Collaborate with process design on business processes and collectively identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Be informed on workshops with stakeholders for process validation changes in collaboration with process design analyst.

What you’ll bring to us:

  • A Degree in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
  • 5-7 years in project management or Project Management Office support (PMP or equivalent an asset).
  • Proven understanding of Project Management best practices, principles and methodologies (PMBOK, Waterfall, Agile).
  • An understanding of how AESO operates, along with the functions of each division, and foundational knowledge of the business processes of the organization would be an asset.
  • Proficient in project management and process mapping tools (MS Project, Jira, MS Planner, Workday, Power BI, Enterprise Consciousness or similar).
  • Proficient in financial management tools (Workday, Oracle or similar).
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills (Excel, Power BI).

What do we do Manage and plan the power grid 24 hours a day When you need power, you expect it. We work with industry partners to keep electricity flowing throughout the province. Our system controllers balance supply and demand 24/7, making sure four million Albertans have power when they need it.

Manage and operate the energy markets In Alberta, companies own generation, transmission and distribution facilities. We dispatch the power sold by generators, using the lowest-priced electricity first and then the next lowest until the need for power has been satisfied. We also enforce transmission tariffs and regulations, keeping the market fair and open for everyone.

Plan the future of the system and its infrastructure As Alberta grows, so does its need for electricity. We plan ahead and expand the grid, ensuring the right transmission lines are built as efficiently as possible. As the province moves away from coal-fired power plants, we're enabling investment in renewable energy. In everything we do, our eye is always on the future.
