About the role

Rehabilitation is offered as inpatient or outpatient programs with the goal to improve a person’s mobility, independence in performing tasks of daily living and ability to communicate. Patients and families participate in setting realistic and meaningful goals in order to achieve or maintain the highest level of function. Care team members include nurses, social worker/discharge planner, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, recreation therapists, dietitians, and physicians

QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate required (training delivered by Health Centre upon hire)
  • Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate required
  • In depth knowledge of psychiatric pathology, psychiatric interviewing /assessment, pharmacological management and required health teaching
  • Knowledge and application of the Recovery Model required
  • Recent experience in a mental health setting (3 to 5 years) required
  • Knowledge of relevant acts and regulations e.g. Mental Health Act, PHIPA, HCCA, College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice, etc.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, employees, service providers

  • Understanding of trauma informed care principles and able to apply within all relationships and interactions

  • Ability to work effectively with members of a multi-disciplinary team, including participation in nursing programming

  • Ability to communicate assessment findings and clinical observations with effective documentation

  • Must be willing to work shifts in other programs as required

  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors

  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization

  • Good attendance and work record required

  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, it is the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it is the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario

NBRHC has 389 beds and numerous outpatient and outreach services in North Bay and throughout the northeast region.

NBRHC is one of four major acute care hospitals serving northeast Ontario; the others being Sault Area Hospital, Timmins and District Hospital and Health Sciences North (Sudbury). The area is also served by small community hospitals like Mattawa and West Nipissing General hospitals.

NBRHC’s Regional Mental Health Services provides inpatient beds in North Bay and Sudbury and outpatient and outreach services that throughout the region—from Hudson Bay to Muskoka from Sault Ste. Marie to the Quebec border.
