Position Status Permanent Part-Time

Highlights JW appreciates those who have a positive outlook and motivating attitude while being able to maintain clear personal boundaries. Best suited is someone with a patient, compassionate approach as well as clear communication; mindful of your words and actions and self-aware as well as observant of someone’s body language and unspoken communication. A motivating style and ability to bring ideas, small or large, for things to do at home and out in community. JW finds large groups overwhelming and needs her worker to be attentive to when she is becoming uncomfortable. JW Indigenous and proud of her culture. She is not interested in educating but expects anyone working with her to be respectful of her Indigenous culture. She has great humour and appreciates humour from others as well as kindness and engagement.

Duties And Responsibilities Home support duties include: assistance with intimate hygiene routines/care including bathing, toileting, catheter care. Meal preparation. Assistance to set environmental circumstances up so that JW can transfer herself.

Pushing JW in her wheelchair when outside of the home.

Accompanying JW To Medical And Other Appointments. Motivating and helping JW to plan activities and locate resources needed to connect to her community and her culture.

Providing companionship and support to JW to attend community outings and leisure activities outside her home.

Develop a supportive and helpful working relationship with JW with healthy personal boundaries.

Cultivate and maintain a positive engagement style with JW’s home share provider as work takes place in and from, their home

Reports To Manager

Rate Of Pay CSW: $24.50/hour to $26.65/hour

Probation 3 months

Driving Requirement Driving not required

Preferred Training Or Experience – Participation and/or experience working with indigenous organizations and an understanding of indigenous culture, traditions and lived history.

  • Clear communication, observational and active listening skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to assist with community connecting skills and to motivate and encourage
  • Experience with lifts/transfers and physically able to push a manual wheelchair
  • Prior experience providing personal hygiene support/care

Specific Training Or Experience Required

  • Supporting People who get anxious
  • Ability to motivate, encourage and engage the interests of others.
  • Computer proficiency (email, Word, internet usage)
