Job Summary:
This position is a working leader role, with responsibilities divided between leading the department and performing data preparation technician work.
Job Responsibilities:
-Technician Responsibilities:
-
Prepare and maintain job processing lineups for all scheduled machining tasks.
-
Review 3D data files for quality and machinability and flag issues requiring rework.
-
Execute and support data preparation requirements, including:
- EDM mapping, surface identification, patching, and any required model/data corrections.
- Create a machine lineup to be referenced by the machinist instructing how to process.
-
Add non-scheduled machining tasks into the system (Epicor / Ekko), including:
- Assigning timing, creating lineups, and supporting integration into the production schedule
-
Support communication of content changes in 3D files and help ensure updates are reflected in production planning.

Assist with preparation of 3D outsource work lineups, which may include cost and timing estimates. -Leader Responsibilities:
-
Act as the primary point of contact for the 3D Production Leader for:
- Lineup questions, processing decisions, and issue escalation and communication
-
Serve as the floor representative to Engineering for all 3D-related:
- File requests, data issues, and escalations
-
Lead participation in Manufacturing Launch Meetings, including:
- Estimating task timing, validating operation necessity, and defining and approving processing plans for all 3D operations (core, cavity, large components)
-
Own and drive data readiness timing, including:
- Identifying requirements proactively, communicating needs to Engineering, following escalation processes
- Holding the APG team accountable for data prep accuracy and deadlines.

Own communication and alignment on data changes, ensuring:
- Production impact is understood and Scheduling adjustments are made,
-
Represent the APG department in cross-functional meetings, including:
- C.C. meetings, EPIC / Continuous improvement meetings, and Quality meetings.
-
Lead and coordinate data preparation priorities by directing the 3D data support team.
- Driving accountability throughout the direct team.
- Manage budgets, timing and quality within the group.
- Create Continuous Improvement initiative through the department and manage to completion.

Maintain accountability for the APG-support team member (performance, output, alignment).
- Create data metrics to support accountability.
- Present the KPI data to management.
- Daily personnel check-ins to ensure delivery are on track.

Ensure manufacturing plans align with cost plans, including:
- Heat treatment considerations, Process sequencing, and Engaging the Machine team for budget buy-in.

Participate in daily production alignment meetings as required.

Set expectations and priorities for the day
-
Manage the team's time keeping and managing overtime when required.
Job Qualifications:
-
Minimum 10-15 years as a high performer within a 3D machining environment.
-
Previous leadership experience in a 3D machining department.
-
Post-Secondary Cad/Cam, General Machinist, or CNC Certificates will be an asset.
-
NX basic knowledge is an asset.
-
WorkNC cam knowledge is an asset.
-
Applicant must possess leadership qualities and traits to lead a team of 6-12 team members. Setting the tone and pace of the workspace, driving a productivity while maintaining a good atmosphere.

Goal oriented with the ability to set personal goals, team goals, department goals, daily production goals, and business goals.
-
Process oriented with the ability to create, training, and enforce standard operating procedures to provide the desired repeatable outcome.

Ability to take direction from management whenever necessary and constantly be open to personal continuous improvement and growth.

Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement with the ability to create CI projects for the department and manage through an action deck.

Basic surfacing, navigation, and analysis abilities using NX 2312 CAD Software.
-
Good understanding of Worknc Cam software.
-
Strong level of understanding surrounding the functionality and machinability of plastic injection molds such as Cores, Cavities, Mechanisms, and plates.
-
Strong ability to visualize 3d machining processes and order of operation, based on CAD design reviews.
-
Ability to accurately estimate machining operation times related to all machining 3d operations, particularly core/cavity, and mechanisms.
-
Strong practical understanding of all 3D operations that are carried out on the equipment within the Machining department including Rouging, Semi finishing, Finishing, EDM along with a good understanding of 2D operations including gundrill and boring mill.

Good understanding of the FCS clamping system, while also possessing the vision to identify and direct the location of fixturing holes relative to machining requirements.

Strong understanding of the capabilities of the machines and equipment within the 3D machining department.

High standard of professionalismcommunication skills. Basic Microsoft Office knowledge.
