The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways is seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent engineering, interpersonal, and consultative skills to join their Design Standards team on a permanent basis as a Senior Design Engineer in Regina, Prince Albert or Saskatoon. This position provides a great opportunity to participate as part of a highly skilled and knowledgeable team to learn, contribute, and expand knowledge in geometric design and share that knowledge for the benefit of others.
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will assist the Director in providing technical expertise and support in the area of geometric design of roadways. The ideal candidate will have an inquiring mind and desire to learn and understand, strong problem-solving and collaboration skills, and a desire to help others. A strong base of technical knowledge is desirable, typically including a degree in Civil Engineering, understanding of road design engineering concepts and principles, and experience with the fundamentals and application of the TAC Geometric Design Guide and the Saskatchewan Supplement.
Primary tasks will include:
- Providing support and direction on the interpretation and application of existing standards;
- Researching, developing, or revising standards;
- Understanding and explaining the underlying knowledge and principles of standards and guidance;
- Providing formal and informal training and mentoring on design principles and standards;
- Problem-solving of design issues;
- Review and recommendation of design exceptions;
- Monitoring and assessing issues, trends, and developments internally and externally and applying them where appropriate; and,
- Participating and providing technical support and insight across a variety of Ministry studies and projects for functional planning, design criteria, detailed design, traffic operations, and innovations in design.
To qualify for the Senior Design Engineer position, you must be eligible to register for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and will be subject to a Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.
