What You Will Be Doing

  • Supervise daily finishing activities for precast concrete bridge segments, including surface treatments, grinding, chamfers, shear keys, bearing areas, anchor recesses, and minor concrete repairs.
  • Ensure finishing works are executed in accordance with IFC drawings, approved design details, match-casting requirements, and tolerance limits.
  • Coordinate sequencing of finishing works with casting, formwork, reinforcement, prestressing, and match-casting operations.
  • Verify proper curing, protection, handling, and storage of finished segments prior to launching.
  • Interpret design drawings, specifications, and technical notes related to concrete finishing and segment interfaces.
  • Liaise with the Design Team and Engineer of Record to clarify design intent, tolerances, and acceptance criteria.
  • Support constructability reviews and provide feedback to engineering on finishing-related issues observed during production.
  • Assist in implementation of approved engineered repair solutions for non-conforming finishes or defects.
  • Ensure finishing works comply with project Quality Management System (QMS), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and approved method statements.
  • Participate in inspections, hold points, and acceptance processes with QA/QC, Owner, and Independent Engineer representatives.
  • Identify, document, and assist in closing NCRs related to finishing works.
  • Maintain accurate records, inspection logs, snag lists, and completion documentation.
  • Supervise finishing operations in compliance with applicable Canadian and provincial occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure workers follow safe work practices, use appropriate PPE, and comply with site safety procedures.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and safety observations relevant to finishing activities.
  • Plan manpower, tools, and materials required for finishing activities in coordination with the construction schedule.
  • Monitor productivity and progress of finishing works and report to site management.
  • Coordinate with launching/erection teams to ensure segments are accepted and ready for installation.

What We Are Looking For

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related field; trade background with strong technical supervision experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in bridge or major civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience supervising concrete finishing works for precast or segmental bridge construction.
  • Experience with match-cast concrete segments and segmental launching operations is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of concrete finishing techniques, tolerances, and repair methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Working knowledge of relevant CSA concrete standards and project quality systems.
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a quality-driven approach to construction.
