About the role
Role Impact:
The Security Systems Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation, and sustainment of Cadillac Fairview’s physical security technologies. This role acts as a key technical enabler in the discovery, piloting, and implementation of advanced, next-generation, and emerging technologies across CF properties. The incumbent will possess a deep and meaningful understanding of smart building technologies and digital twins as well as leverage the dual-use capabilities of these systems to drive value for both physical security and Operational Technology (OT) Cyber operations. This role bridges the gap between physical hardware and digital strategy, ensuring that all systems are operational, compliant, and capable of supporting the "OneCF" vision.
What you will deliver:
-
Responsible for the technical discovery, proof-of-concept piloting, and support the national rollout of emerging and next-generation security technologies (e.g., AI-driven video analytics, biometrics, robotics) to enable predictive risk management.
-
Implement the technical roadmap for mobile credentialing (NFC/Apple Wallet) and tenant experience platform integrations ensuring seamless interoperability between ACMS platforms and third-party apps.
-
Leverage a deep understanding of smart building ecosystems to integrate security sensors (IoT) into Digital Twin models, creating real-time risk visualization tools that support situational awareness and emergency response.
-
Identify and operationalize the "dual-use" capabilities of smart building technology - using data (e.g., occupancy counting, environmental monitoring) to support advancements in intelligent building security operations.
-
Partner closely with the OT Cyber Security team to ensure that smart building integrations are "Secure by Design," translating high-level cyber governance into practical hardware hardening and network segmentation standards.
-
Serve as the primary Tier 2/3 technical support resource for property teams, resolving complex hardware and software issues that cannot be handled by local integrators.
-
Proactively monitor the health of enterprise security systems, identifying aging infrastructure and prioritizing replacements to ensure continuous "predictive readiness."
-
Validate vendor designs to ensure they meet enterprise standards.
-
Manage performance and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with national security integrators to ensure properties receive high-quality support.
-
Lead the technical execution of internal and external security audits and ensure strict compliance with enterprise governance standards.
-
Conduct technical Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) for all new security devices, ensuring that data collection practices comply with privacy laws and corporate risk policies prior to deployment.
-
Develop and maintain the "Enterprise Physical Security Technical Standards," specifying approved hardware, cabling requirements, and installation methodologies to ensure consistency across the portfolio.
-
Remediate technical vulnerabilities identified in cybersecurity assessments by applying patches and hardening configurations, preventing edge devices from becoming attack vectors for the corporate network.
-
Enforce physical security device hardening standards to prevent edge devices from becoming attack vectors for the corporate network.
-
Maintain an accurate, centralized inventory of all security edge devices to support capital planning, depreciation, and vulnerability management.
-
Track and report on system uptime and vendor performance metrics to drive accountability.
-
Provide regular updates on the status of innovation pilots and capital projects, highlighting risks and opportunities to the Senior Manager.
What your strengths are:
-
Advanced-level knowledge of enterprise security platforms and Smart Building protocols (BACnet, Modbus, IoT integration).
-
Understanding of Digital Twin concepts and how physical security data integrates into broader building management systems.
-
Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent capital projects and technology pilots.
-
Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot complex integrations between legacy hardware and next-gen software.
-
Understanding of the intersection between physical security, IT networking, and OT Cyber Security.
-
Strong business acumen with experience developing investment business cases for technology and successfully identifying opportunities to offset operational costs.
What you need to succeed:
-
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or Security Systems Technology.
-
Professional certifications in enterprise security platforms (e.g., Genetec, LenelS2, KeyScan) are strongly preferred.
-
Certifications in Project Management (PMP) or Cyber Security (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP) are considered an asset.
-
Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in the design, installation, and technical support of enterprise physical security systems (CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion).
-
Demonstrated experience with IP networking, database management (SQL), and server infrastructure as they relate to security operations.
-
Proven track record of managing capital projects, including vendor selection, quote validation, and commissioning.
-
Experience working with Smart Building technologies (IoT, BAS integration) and digital twin concepts is highly desirable.
-
Must qualify for and achieve a Level II Government of Canada security clearance.
