This posting

This posting will be used to fill 1 term full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.

This job is based in beautiful Yukon, main office is in Whitehorse, but we are open to work from other Yukon communities (most specifically, Carmacks, Pelly, Mayo, or Old Crow).

Our team

Population and Public Health, Evidence and Evaluation (PPHEE) team, part of the Innovation, Quality and Performance division, brings together a strong and coordinated team skilled at using data, local evidence and evaluation approaches to collaboratively support policy and decision making with the goal of improving the health and wellbeing of all Yukoners, while ensuring effective and efficient services.

Your role

The Project Manager, First Nation Planet Youth Initiative supports and manages the implementation of the Icelandic Prevention Model in rural Yukon in partnership with two previously selected pilot sites.

The project manager is responsible to support an evaluation of the local implementation and ensure lessons learned are captured.

The ideal candidate has strong project management and group facilitation skills and is confident supporting evidence-based decision making processes.

Important application and job requirements

Essential qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Graduate Degree in Public Health, Social Services, Health Sciences, Health Policy, sociology, or other related discipline.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, course work towards PMP designation or significant experience managing large complex projects with partners.

  • Experience building and maintaining effective and collaborative working relationships/partnerships with First Nation communities, government(s), and health professionals.

  • Experience working with qualitative and quantitative research methods and data for the purpose of presentations to communities, health professionals, and decision-makers.

  • Coursework in Indigenous Peoples’ health, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, is an asset.

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability

If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:

  • Knowledge of Yukon First Nations communities, and their governance models.
  • Knowledge of OCAP® principles.
  • Knowledge of cultural safety and humility,
  • Ability to define project goals and work plans with timelines and deliverables to ensure the early integration of projects.
  • Familiarity with theories of social deviance developed in sociology and criminology
  • Ability to develop evaluation metrics and processes that support the collection and reporting of project data from multiple sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively manage changes in project scope, identify risks, and develop contingency plans where appropriate.
  • Ability to clearly communicate both oral and written project status reports and project presentations.
  • Strong change management, facilitation, negotiation and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in large, complex settings.
  • Ability to foster collaborative and effective working relationships.

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

  • RCMP Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence.
