What makes us stand out?

KCB is an employee-owned mid-size consultancy with a reputation that exceeds our size. Our tag line “Down to Earth / Up to the Challenge” says a lot about who we are. Our staff are inquisitive, curious, and dedicated to solving complex problems. Our size allows us to draw on colleagues across the globe just as easily as if they were across the hall. We also advocate for continued professional development and encourage this by hosting a range of internal and external training sessions and encouraging staff to participate in conferences. In broad terms we think KCB’s differentiators are our:

  • size - large enough to win intriguing projects, small enough for the President and CEO to know you by name
  • creative perspectives that come through diverse and inclusive teams
  • access to some of the sectors’ leading talent
  • international reputation for technical excellence, where everyone maintains a technical focus
  • appetite to tackle problems with unique complexities

Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. (KCB) is expanding its Power & Transportation group and has an attractive opportunity in our Vancouver office for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. As a geotechnical engineer with KCB, you will have the opportunity to participate in transportation, hydroelectric, marine and civil infrastructure projects in a multi-discipline project team environment. Working in the Vancouver office you will be working closely with mentors, internal team members, clients and other stakeholders as you apply and advance your expertise in design, analysis and project leadership skills.

What you would engage in:

  • Guide clients through complex geotechnical designs and hazards, from proposal through construction management.
  • Provide risk management and regulatory navigation to geotechnical engineering projects, including design recommendations for foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, and embankments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide geotechnical input on transportation, hydroelectric, marine, and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Review and prepare technical reports, proposals, design specifications, and recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Perform geotechnical modeling and analysis using industry-standard software such as GeoStudio, PLAXIS, or similar tools.
  • Preparation of construction documents and provide construction support as required.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, project teams, and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop less experienced engineers and project managers in the coordination and management of projects.

What we require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree is an asset).
  • Minimum of 10 years of geotechnical engineering consulting experience, with exposure to transportation, hydroelectric, marine, or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or ability to obtain within 6-months.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., GeoStudio, PLAXIS, gINT, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and applicable codes and standards.
  • Project management experience, including proposal through risk evaluation to completion.
  • Hands-on experience conducting site investigations, soil sampling, and in-situ testing.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Mentor and support the development of team members through the technical review and feedback process.
  • An ability to build rapport with clients and stakeholders, and a track record of increasing backlog.

The salary for this position is $110,000 to $160,000 per year. Salary is based on applicable experience, education, and skill level.

Along with continued career development, KCB offers:

  • Hybrid work opportunities
  • Annual performance and salary review
  • Vacation policy that aligns to your experience
  • Paid OT, and sick days
  • Flexible benefits, including RRSP, social, and mental well-being initiatives
