##Key responsibilities
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Completion of a formal training program in a related discipline from a recognized institute plus three years of directly-related experience.
EXPERIENCE:
-
Experience in and dealing with confidential material is required.
-
Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team, external professional organizations, and non-profit organizations required.
-
Experience working with First Nations communities required.
-
A current resident of the rural community, or a former resident or active in the community as a staff/volunteer.
-
Experience participating in or ideally facilitating/leading community meetings.
-
Experience as a facilitator, remaining objective.
-
Experience working with children, youth, and seniors.
-
Basic expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Windows. Experience with Voice Mail and electronic mail, photocopier, office phones, MS Publisher, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
-
Experience with project management and working with Indigenous partners.
-
Experience submitting timesheet, maintain records and reports of meetings and visits
-
Working Knowledge of nutrition and/or food security is preferred.
-
Completion of a Cultural Safety program preferred
-
Knowledge of PHIA & FIPPA is preferred.
-
Previous community work in the local community preferred.
-
Languages appropriate for First Nations communities considered an asset.
-
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to deal effectively with all levels of staff, students and the public, using tact & diplomacy is required.

Excellent organizational skills, excellent English grammar skills – verbal and written, ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines consistently is required.
-
Advanced skills in computer software applications including MS Office programs is required.

Ability to engage with residents from multiple access points (social networks, faith communities, community groups and organizations) is required.
-
Ability to participate in training workshops to refresh knowledge on food, food systems and food security when required for the project is required.

Ability to plan, schedule and organize a variety of events/tasks individually and for the team is required.
-
Knowledge of resources available to the target community is required.
-
Experience working with a wide range of community groups, including those who are excluded is required.
-
Ability to work with volunteers that possess a wide range of skills is required.
-
Conflict resolution skills are required.
-
Flexibility in working hours is required.
-
Willingness to support ongoing or short-term programs and initiatives is required.

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment is required.

Tact and diplomacy are required.

Empathy and social awareness are required.

Ability to convey interest and enthusiasm is required.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English is required.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, students, and community partners is required.

- Competence in an Indigenous language, both written and spoken considered an asset.
- Awareness of community worker principles in community development practice an asset.
- Awareness of current issues facing the target community regarding food access, security and nutrition an asset.
- Knowledge of relevant legislations an asset.
- Knowledge of cultural safety considered an asset.
