HomeFront is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence in the Calgary area. We are an internationally recognized, research validated, leading edge, coordinated community-justice response to domestic violence. Working together with justice, law enforcement and the community, HomeFront shares a common vision and goal to reduce domestic violence in Calgary.
Position Summary
The Communications and Events Specialist is responsible for social media management; management of website content; writing and production of external and internal communication materials ensuring consistency of messaging and branding; media relations; support of event planning and event execution while working in conjunction with the fund development team.
Key Responsibilities
-Communications & Branding
- Developing and implementing communications strategy to enhance visibility and awareness, ensuring alignment with mission and goals.
- Manage digital presence (website, social medial, newsletters, email campaigns).
- Writing, designing, and producing all written and visual communications and marketing materials including newsletters, annual reports, brochures and other agency publications as directed.
- Working to create impactful storytelling content, effectively conveying the organization's mission and client success stories, while ensuring confidentiality and client sensitivity.
- Ensure all communications reflect organization voice and trauma-informed approach.
-Media Relations
- Develop a key media relations strategy to increase HomeFront’s awareness.
- Liaison with media, field questions, craft key messages and connect media with HomeFront’s Executive Director for interviews as needed.
- Track HomeFront involvement within the media and keep media contacts updated.
-Event Management
- Plan and execute organization events, including fundraisers and community campaigns.
- Coordinate event logistics, including venues, vendors and volunteers.
- Ensure events highlight program impact and strengthen partnerships.
-Partnership & Donor Support
- Collaborate with the Fund Development Specialist to integrate storytelling into fundraising campaigns. Presenting to community and corporate groups about HomeFront’s work.
- Seek out and apply for local, national, international awards to increase public profile, recognize staff and establish credibility of HomeFront.
- Create recognition materials for donors, sponsors and community partners.
- Highlight partnerships in communications and events.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

3 - 5 years of experience in a similar role with previous event coordination experience.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills with exceptional spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills.

Understands digital marketing tools and traditional and emerging social media channels.

Self-motivated, action and results oriented working style.

Be able to manage competing and evolving priorities.

Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrating discretion and sound judgment.

Ability to thrive as part of a team, excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with a diverse set of individuals including external vendors and volunteers.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Word Press.

Experience in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
-
Relevant non-profit and domestic violence knowledge is an asset.

Willingness to work flexible hours as required.

Experience in grant writing and reporting an asset
Scope
-
This position requires the completion of a Calgary Police Information Check.
-
This position is required 5 days a week, 8-hour days beginning at 8:00am ending at 4:00pm - hours flexible to meet company needs; with some evenings and weekends required for events and meetings

Hybrid working arrangement available

This position reports directly to the Director of Advancement & Evaluation and works closely with the Fund Development Specialists, Program Managers and Executive Director.
