About the Opportunity
Harvard Media is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Controller to join our Finance team in Regina to cover a maternity leave term beginning March/April 2026 (exact dates to be confirmed).
The Financial Controller plays a key leadership role in ensuring financial integrity, timely reporting, and operational efficiency across Harvard Media’s diverse radio and digital divisions. This role is ideal for a hands-on finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment and enjoys both the technical and strategic aspects of accounting.
Note: This is a maternity leave coverage position. The successful candidate will not be eligible for Harvard Media’s standard group benefits; however, vacation entitlement will apply in accordance with company policy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Coordinate with external auditors and prepare supporting documentation as required.
- Monitor internal controls, ensure compliance with company policies and financial regulations.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support management decision-making.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve processes and strengthen financial efficiency.
- Assist in payroll and benefits reconciliation as needed during the coverage period.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- CPA designation (or equivalent combination of education and experience) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting and analysis.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting/ERP systems an asset.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
Essential Requirements:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Willingness to work additional hours during peak reporting and audit periods.
- Proven track record of meeting tight deadlines with accuracy and professionalism.
- Availability to work on-site in Regina throughout the term of employment.
