Job Summary
This position is dedicated to supporting lab and simulation staff and faculty in the delivery of high-quality student lab and simulation based learning experiences. This position reports to the Coordinator and assumes the responsibilities for the day-to-day coordination and running of the lab and simulation center. This position must be able to work collaboratively with the staff and faculty as well as have a high level of independence to assist in carrying out the operations of the center.
This is a part time hourly position (0.81 FTE) for 28.5 hours/week
This is an 11-month position with the possibility of extension.
Work Performed
-
Works closely with lab and simulation team including the lab and simulation coordinator, practice placement coordinator, staff, faculty, and students to foster a positive work environment and a culture of excellence in lab and simulation.

Works with the simulation coordinator to support strategic planning for the lab and simulation across programs.

Oversees the ordering of supplies and management of inventory including creating purchase orders and reconciling credit card.

Maintains related databases, software, and programs Liaises with IT, AV,
and other services to ensure optimal functioning of equipment.

Ensures storage of the lab and simulation data complies with privacy and security standards and manages appropriate access to this data.

Assists with the operational management of the scheduling of learning spaces, equipment, and personnel resources.

Creates a clear process for determining priority access to equipment.

Works closely with external technical experts and technicians and ensures optimum operating environments for staff, faculty and students.

Maintains records of all equipment service agreements and warranties, brings forward pending expiry and renewal requirements on a timely basis.

Manages lab and simulation set up, take down, overall cleanliness, visual inspections of equipment, redeployment of supplies and to troubleshoot issues that arise.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
This position requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively is required to ensure overall organization and administration of the Lab Sim environment in the BSN programs in the School of Nursing. These experiences are integral to nursing students completing course work, meeting the required competencies of a graduate nurse, and becoming safe practicing nurses.
The judgments and decisions made by person in this position must be in alignment with current nursing practice standards and UBCO SON content. Ensuring student safety is essential.
Judgment, reliability, accuracy, and skilled communications are required for the smooth operation of this learning area and to ensure quality lab and simulation education.
Consequences of inappropriate judgments, unreliable performance, inaccuracy, or miscommunications may include inappropriate ordering, scheduling, and operation of lab and simulation learning.

This position receives supervision from the Nursing Laboratory Simulation Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a two-year post-secondary diploma in practical nursing
- Minimum two (2) years relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Health Sciences degree (BHSc or equivalent) is an asset
- Knowledge of healthcare equipment and supplies.
- Database management and an aptitude to learn new applications
- Project management skills is an asset
- Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently or within a team with minimal supervision is expected.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment and resolve technical problems.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills and knowledge of safety issues.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret University policies, procedures, manuals, handbooks and reports.
