About the role
Reporting to the Meat Supervisor, the Lead Meat Cutter supports daily department operations, delivering quality products and service. This role requires a positive, results-driven leader who builds strong relationships with customers and team members while keeping administrative tasks on track. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, merchandising, pricing, inventory, customer service, budgeting, staff supervision, as well as the ordering, receiving, inspecting, storing, and preparation of meats, fish, and seafood.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with the overall operations of the Meat department.
- Assist with overall operations of the Meat department.
- Support merchandising, including preparation of promotions and displays, tagging, and pricing accuracy.
- Oversee inventory control, including ordering, receiving, and stock management (FIFO).
- Receive, inspect, store, and prepare meats, fish, and seafood, including cutting, filleting, and trimming using knives and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health standards, including completion of required logs (e.g., temperature, grinder logs).
- Maintain product displays using production charts and stock control sheets to ensure quality and consistency.
- Provide excellent customer service, including assisting with inquiries and supporting special orders.
- Support and help lead the Meat department team in a positive, safety-focused, and engaging manner aligned with organizational values.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in meat handling, retail, or food service is an asset
- Knowledge of meat cuts, storage, and safe handling procedures
- Ability to operate meat cutting equipment safely (slicers, saws, grinders)
- Journeyman Meat Cutter Certificate – preferred
- Previous experience in customer service role
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends Leadership experience or ability to support and guide team members
Working Conditions:
- Flexibility in scheduling, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours) Physically demanding tasks including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and occasional stair climbing
