JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor, Major Projects is responsible for leading a team to successful delivery of the major projects portfolio, which includes capital substation and large distribution projects, with accountability for the portfolio’s overall cost, schedule, risk and performance. The Supervisor, Major Projects is accountable for the hiring, performance management, development, coaching and mentoring of direct reports as well as building strong relationships and fostering collaboration with peers and stakeholders across the company, external suppliers, and customers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, monitor and control the work on the Major Projects Portfolio (+$60M annually) and maintain overall accountability for the cost, schedule, risk and quality performance through the use of metrics and project management techniques.
  • Oversee all aspects of the Major Projects Portfolio to ensure compliance for technical and programmatic requirements.
  • Lead Portfolio reviews, report and provide status of activities on a timely basis.
  • Act as a point of escalation and resolution for project issues and roadblocks.
  • Act as a key point of contact with Hydro One, IESO and other external parties related to Hydro Ottawa substation projects.
  • Provide on-going project management supervision in support of our key customer demand projects. This includes direct customer engagement to develop and execute against our large load connection process.
  • Approve and manage engineering consultants.
  • Approve for implementation, the designs developed by external and internal engineers.
  • Review processes to optimize efficiency, productivity, quality, accuracy and safety.
  • Assist with the development of annual budgets and ensure work is carried out within established budgets.
  • Support employees with technical studies and analysis/status reports.
  • Provide technical support to developing, updating and approving standards for design and construction of substation and distribution infrastructure.
  • Continuously review and implement resource requirements by assisting with the selection of staff, ensuring appropriate training and coaching is provided, delegating tasks and assignments, defining goals, communicating feedback on performance.
  • Build and maintain strong operational relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Ensure the quantity and quality of work progresses by adjusting schedules as required to deal with emergencies and other unforeseen problems.
  • Ensure work is completed safely and strict adherence to all health and safety standards and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist with the creation of procurement documents such as statements of work for the purpose of attracting, evaluating and awarding contracts to service providers.
  • Participate in the on-boarding of new contractors in collaboration with Contractor Management and Health and Safety.
  • Participate in contractor and vendor performance management system including productivity, cost, safety, delivery, contract compliance, and responsiveness considerations.
  • Participate in Business Continuity Plan and On Call programs.
  • Perform business case and financial analysis.
  • Deliver presentations to decision makers and stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Professional Engineer licensed in the Province of Ontario
  • Minimum 5 years’ engineering experience in an electric utility environment
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably Google Workspace, as well as Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Designation considered an asset
  • Knowledge of ISO 55000 Asset Management considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Protection and Control philosophies considered an asset

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset
  • Valid driver’s license – G Class

This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

This is a management group opportunity. The annual salary range for this position identified below depends on experience, education, and professional designation. The successful candidate will be offered a salary within this range based on their qualifications.

Pay Range Minimum:

$98,351.18

Pay Range Maximum:

$147,555.72
