Electrical Engineer 2 - Quality Assurance

Position Highlights
The Quality and Geomatics Division has a great opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join the Quality Assurance team,
headquartered at the Edmonds office in Burnaby. We’re looking for an engineer with knowledge of medium and/or high
voltage electrical equipment (12 kV – 550 kV). Your role will be to lead the development of risk-based quality surveillance
strategies for electrical equipment, coordinate project quality requirements, and perform supplier evaluation activities such
as factory acceptance test witnessing and production inspections. This role is suited for someone who enjoys having
tremendous variety in their work. Team members are responsible for strategizing, planning, and managing supplier quality
for distribution, transmission, and generation assets, capital projects, and engineered stock materials. Team members work
closely with business partners in Distribution Standards, Stations Equipment, Category Management, and Capital Project
Delivery to assess supplier capabilities and define and execute surveillance strategies for engineered electrical equipment.
What you'll do

Design risk-based quality surveillance strategies for Transmission, Distribution and Generation electrical equipment,
-
Review and comment on manufacturer’s test plans.
-
Witness factory acceptance tests at supplier’s facilities and be able to apply your knowledge of test specifications and
standards to ensure compliance.

Lead the resolution of non-conformities.
-
Work closely and provide guidance to other engineering teams, supply chain, contract management, construction
management, and suppliers to ensure that purchased material and services meet specification and quality assurance
contractual requirements.
- Be a key player in managing supplier relationships, which includes participating in strategic sourcing, defining supplier
evaluation criteria, evaluating proposals, performing supplier evaluations and surveillance activities, and accepting and
monitoring supplier improvement plans.

Craft well-written reports, memos, and requirements documents.

Review work of the team and of consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results, and
adherence to accepted engineering practice.

Impart engineering knowledge and encourage the professional development of engineers and technical staff.

Balance your business sense, communication skills, and technical knowledge to deliver efficient, technically acceptable
solutions when faced with challenges.
- Be self-motivated and enjoy working on a variety of concurrent projects.
What you bring

A degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian Universities.

Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC
(EGBC).

A minimum of 4 years of work experience in Electrical engineering or other relevant discipline.

Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to summarize complex issues at an appropriate level for
the audience.

Demonstrated technical, time management, listening, and interpersonal skills.

A pro-active approach to problem solving and conflict resolution

Flexible work planning skills to adapt to changing circumstances

Experience coordinating and working with other disciplines.

Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new programs with limited formal training (self-learner).
**The following are considered assets:
- Experience related to the specification, design, manufacture, test and/or commissioning of medium or high voltage
electrical
equipment (12 kV – 550 kV).
- Experience with quality processes and practices relating to equipment manufacturing (custom and/or high-volume
production)
- Hydroelectric, substation, and/or transmission & distribution line structure and related equipment procurement, fabrication
and test experience

Possess and demonstrate a willingness and an ability to expand skills beyond the core discipline

Knowledge of auditing methods and experience with conducting quality assurance audits

Experience developing and managing supplier surveillance
strategies
- Experience demonstrating an ability to clearly scope, estimate, and direct the work of quality assurance service providers
and building and sustaining strong working relationships with coworkers and suppliers.

An ability to be adaptable and flexible.
