Senior Stress Integrity Engineer

Your Opportunity
Our Energy team is currently seeking a Sr. Stress/Integrity Engineer to join our Integrity group in Alberta.
The primary role of the Sr. Stress Engineer is to support the integrity department working on integrity‑related projects for pipelines, facilities, terminals, refineries and other Energy infrastructure (renewable and conventional), as well as support other business areas such as Water and Transportation. These projects require thorough knowledge of stress analysis of pipelines, piping and structural components using fundamental mechanics and finite element analysis. The candidate may also be required to participate in the development of new analytical tools or new approaches to integrity challenges.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct stress analysis of above & below ground pipelines, piping and structural components
- Conduct detailed finite element analysis (FEA) of above & below ground pipelines, piping and structural components
- Demonstrated experience modelling ground movement (eg. geohazards) interactions with buried pipelines
- Demonstrated experience with non‑linear modelling, including elastic‑plastic analysis
- Experience and/or knowledge of modelling heat transfer and welding in FEA, and metallurgy and fracture mechanics is an asset
- Familiarity with pipeline integrity assessments (in‑line inspection, crack, corrosion, deformation) and non‑destructive examination (NDE) techniques is an asset
- Conducting permanent and temporary pipeline crossing assessments
- Experience in conducting fitness‑for‑service (FFS) evaluations of corrosion, cracks, and deformations (e.g. API 579 Level 1/2/3) including the use of advanced analysis techniques when appropriate
- Ensure compliance with applicable Canadian and US codes and standards and recommend best practices to project and client personnel
- Be familiar with and ensure appropriate reference material is utilized at all times
- Execute studies and develop reports
- Liaise with Integrity Team Leaders and Stantec’s Engineering divisions
- Assist with developing man‑hour estimates and subsequently monitor team progress against budgets, initiating appropriate notification and/or corrective actions as needed
- Involvement in research‑style activities including the development of internal projects, literature searches, and the use of modern and innovative techniques to solve our client’s challenging problems
- Assist in the development of new revenue sources through internal research projects, development of work practices, marketing, conferences, journal articles, and business development activities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of project management principles and ability to conduct project scoping, budgeting and scheduling an asset
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Experience with traditional pipeline stress analysis software (eg. AutoPipe)
- Experience with Abaqus finite element analysis software
- Experience related to asset integrity within the O&G industry (Water infrastructure experience also an asset)
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in conducting Fitness for Service and Risk Assessments
- Demonstrate technical proficiency in supporting Integrity Management Plans
- Strong technical proficiency
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills are essential
- Demonstrated process improvement skills
- Proven initiative, flexibility and adaptability to widely varying projects, schedules, deliverables, and clients
- Ability to work individually and in a group, self‑starter
- Experience with programming languages to support work activities. Python is preferred.
- Willingness to lead and mentor junior team members with varied technical backgrounds
- Experienced with Canadian and US standards, practices and applicable legislation and codes
- Well organized and experience in planning activities and meet multiple project workloads and schedules
- Demonstrate superior technical proficiency in writing technical documents and reports
- Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem solving skills are essential
- Demonstrated initiative, Leadership and self‑motivation
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and other software tools
Education and Experience
- Minimum B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Materials Engineering or similar
- 15+ years work experience related to integrity within the Canadian oil and gas and Energy industry
- P. Eng. status recognized by APEGA and qualifications recognized by AMPP/NACE, ASM, API preferred
- Knowledge of CSA, API, ISO, DNV Oil and Gas standards
- Knowledge of NEB, DoT, PRCI documents related to pipeline integrity and fitness‑for‑service for a variety of imperfection types
- An understanding of reliability theory, statistics and probability, and Monte Carlo methodologies
- 8+ years of demonstrated FEA modelling
