Serve as a subject matter expert on standard contract terms and risk allocation.

Supervise, mentor, and provide day-to-day guidance to contract review personnel/specialists without formal legal training.

Develop and maintain standardized contract templates, playbooks, and guidance materials to support consistency and efficiency.

Train non-legal personnel on contract review processes, issue spotting, and escalation protocols.

Review and approve escalations from contract specialists to ensure quality and accuracy.

Support in developing and implementing contract management policies and procedures.

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in contract review workflows, including use of technology, automation, and knowledge management.

Monitor contract-related risks and escalate significant issues.

Maintain strong working knowledge of the company’s risk profile and ensure contract provisions align with organizational risk tolerance.

Assist with the development and oversight of the marketing collateral review process, including with respect to advertising marketing law compliance.

Support litigation management, including coordinating with external counsel, tracking proceedings, and managing document production.

Provide oversight and support for intellectual property (IP) management, including trademarks, copyrights, and licensing issues.

Contribute to special projects and other legal matters as assigned.

Act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders on contract-related and general legal matters.

Partner with compliance, privacy, and risk management teams to ensure legal obligations are met.

Assist in training business teams on contract risk awareness and legal best practices.   We’re looking for:

Law Degree and LL.B. or J.D. with a license in good standing and admission to practice law in Ontario.

5 years of post-call experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts.

Background in either a reputable law firm or in-house legal department; experience in both is an asset.

Demonstrated ability to mentor and oversee non-legal contract review specialists.

Ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-oriented legal advice that aligns with organizational goals.

Strong written and verbal communication; adept at translating complex legal issues for non-legal audiences.

Proven track record of working effectively with cross-functional teams.

Strong judgment in assessing and balancing legal risks with commercial priorities.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and improve processes in a fast-paced environment.
