Description Manager, Safety & Training Drive your future with McCluskey Transportation! Job Summary Reporting to the Regional Director, Safety & Training with a dotted line to the GM, the Manager of Safety & Training is responsible for the compliance and adherence to company, federal, provincial and municipal safety regulations. This position requires an individual who has vast knowledge of the daily function of a school bus operation. This unit-based leadership role will be an expert on training; both government and company, driver development, certifications, expirations and operations. Managing a group of Bus Driver Trainers, this role will serve as a mentor and will supervise work output.
Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000 annually
Job Duties
- Lead the unit-based safety and training function of the company.
- Oversee Bus Driver Trainers and other signing authorities to ensure compliance; Driver Certification Program, Ministry of Transportation, HTA, and National Safety Code.
- Work with multiple levels of government, industry, and internal stakeholders for all aspects of safety and training within designated area.
- Adhere to compliance-based regulations from a company, federal, provincial, and municipal perspective.
- Assess and recommend updates to policy and procedure manuals.
- Manage and lead local training staff and initiatives and ongoing education at multiple sites; train drivers as required.
- Assist in the recruitment process including; interview, select and train new drivers.
- Accurately research regulations pertaining to School Bus Drivers and communicateupdates to staff.
- Collison investigation and reporting; follow company procedures when a collision occurs.
- Assist manager in ensuring drivers complete all necessary job-related training and planning driver safety meetings.
- Act as a liaison with customers, Ministry of Transportation, and Ministry of Labour.
- Have knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations, Highway Traffic Act, Workers Compensation, Occupational Health and Safety.
- Investigate workplace accidents, collisions, incidents and near misses; implement programs to prevent the occurrence of each.
- Maintain employee safety records in company compliance systems; manage the regulatory and operating compliance aspects of related activity.
- Assist with the development and implementation of a proactive safety platform.
- Co-Chair for Joint Health and Safety Committees.
- Available to cover school runs if needed.
Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience in a School Bus Safety role or equivalent experience
- Possess or willing to obtain a valid Class- B license
- Maintain professional driver’s license
- Successfully obtain First Aid & CPR certification
- Must be capable of learning to communicate effectively
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Obtain and maintain Signing Authority
- Complete a Professional Instructor in Driver Education course
Education
- Completion of studies from an accredited post-secondary learning institution
- Secondary School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years of related transportation industry work experience
Physical & Additional Requirements
- Ability to walk, bend, twist, turn and lift up-to 50lbs.
- Sit for extended periods of time with repeated arm and shoulder movement to open and close door
- Climbing may be required for cleaning windshields/wipers and/or other simple mechanical functions
- Ability to travel based on business needs to various interprovincial locations
